    Hello everyone,

I’m new on here so bere with me.

I have my consultation for BA on Monday, and I am hoping to have the surgery quite soon after that.

My biggest worry at the moment is how long I am going to have to take off work. I know most people are saying around 2 weeks, but I do a very manual job (I am a police officer) and I wondered if anyone had had a BA and has a manual job n how long they needed to take off?

Hope someone can offer some advice.

That depends what kind of actions you need to perform every day. If you are constantly moving and stretching and using your muscles, you’re going to need to give yourself a decent amount of time off. I know it’s frustrating but a BA is a lot of money to throw away by not taking enough time to recover.

Your PC will give you an idea of how much time you’ll need off, and you can have a proper chat with the surgeon who will give you a better idea xx

I worked in a nursery, lifting children all day and I took just under 2weeks off, but found that when I went back, I just didn’t have the upper body strength to do my job as I would have before. Even using a tin opener was a struggle!! I’d recommend taking as much time as you can just so you give your body a chance to heal fully. Wouldn’t want to pull your scars open or set back your recovery by trying to do too much too soon. x
