Rhino – How long does it take for swelling to go down after cast is removed?

So i had my cast off on monday and unlike what i have read on here….i found the experience quite….difficult. when i was given the mirror i had to look away, i didnt recognise myself and it scared me a little. My bump has gone and my nose is straight and im hoping my eyes will adjust to the ‘new me’….something iv wanted for so many years but my nose is soo swollen and sore, my face is swollen still from looking like iv gone 10 rounds in a boxing ring and i have no idea when my face is going to settle…am i looking at a number of weeks, months?

i have to go back to work tomorrow and my face and skin is so sensitive it hurts to even put cream on let alone make up …. excuse the depressing post, but iv been kinda down about this since yesterday…. any tips are welcome. xx

im 3 month now and my tip of my nose is still swoollen some days it goes up and other down it can take up to a year tho x

no one can really tell its there tho only u will be able to feel it after a few weeks i think it was around 4 week i noticed my nose had gone down loads x

i just want the visable swelling to go down, the whole ‘me’ thing i can deal with that, but the obvious swelling on my face and the tip is so annoying ! im SO hoping that by my 6 week check up il be more happy… x

I think the worst part of any procedure is the waiting for results,have you tried drinking pure pineapple juice it is supposed to help with the swelling,it contains bromelain,Ive been drinking a litre a day since my op.xxx

hey, yea iv been eating alot of pineapple but il buy a carton tomorrow and just start drinking it daily. have you found that its helped you?.xx

Well I think it has for me personally,dont know if its just my imagination,or because I need to believe something is helping,but its packed full of vitamins honey,so it certainly cant do you any harm,xxx

Busybee, I had my cast off monday and i too hated the fact my nose was so swollen and the cast has actually bruised the top of my nose, god knows how, i have a big purple square at the top. I loooove his work and my shape is exactly as i wanted, but its difficult to be so ecstatic when it looks so swollen and f****d at the moment! Plus my plaster was so glued down it ripped my skin coming off and left me with white marks across my face which i cant get rid off. My skin is normally so clear but im having to deal with oily and excessivly dry patches of skin aswell! Dont worry hun, were all in the same boat The swelling is horrible, puts a total downer on it, but im sure ull love it in the end, im already looking past the swelling and just thinking in a few months itll be loooovley xxx

ah sofs87, glad its not just mee!!! oh god my skin is so dry in some places and oily in others as well…today is my first day going back to work and im attempting to put make up on and i look like a clown lol….i cant wait for everything to settle!

laura 519 so it sounds like after a week you noticed a change…. im going to try and wait it out and keep patient then, nothing more than i can do! Just helps to know others have felt the same….my nose is straight and thats all great but more than anything i just want it to settle…. xxx

I had my op in September I am 3 months post op and as Tony mentioned previously the swelling goes up and down depending on certain factors. When my cast first came off I wasn’t a hundred percent sure, but honestly you’ll get used to it. I did and now I absolutely love my nose… Happy healing. Btw, I drank so much pineapple juice in the first two weeks that I can’t look at the stuff now xxx

hellooo dr g told me 4million times not to sit there and wait for the swelling to go down as it wont for the next 4-6months, so dont sit there and stare at it like what iv been doing haha itl put you down more, i think the first 12 days after the cast is off is hard as iv found it hard the swelling does make you feel like poo not going to lie, but iv got used to it now, just got to think in 6months or even less the you wont even notice the swelling because itl be gone and youl have a smaller nose than what you did have when the cast come off!! littlechelle im been drinking loads as well i bet il go off it soon xxx

ah thanks girlies! work have been good and told me not to do much so im just writing a few letters and pretending to be working whilst im looking on here hehe! want to fast forward a few months, anyone got a time machine?

Rinaule – might be a good thing im not at home cos thats what i would exactly be doing, just staring at my nose in the mirror! I have my 6 week check up with Dr. G in 8 weeks [cos he’s on holiday in mid jan] i have my fingers firmly crossed il be more happy with it at that point…

i havnt stopped looking at my nose all day haha but i look pass the swelling now and i always look at a before pic and it makes me feel so much better! my nose is fine today tho i love it! ahh yeah i know why does he have to go on holiday the bugger im seeing him on the 24th of jan which isnt too bad! when do you see him? xxx

I have only had my cast on 2days now and my god I’m getting fed up! I am the least patient person I know. I’m so bored of sitting at home and not being able to breathe.this new nose better be worth it …rant over lol! xxx

haha georgiajxx i feel for you!!! 2nd honestly was the worst but then day by day it gets better, i am such an impatient person, hence why im hating this swelling stage and want to just skip to when it looks better!! over the course of the next 5 days [which will feel like 5 weeks] just eat and drink well, take your meds, sleep, catch up on tv, movies, mags and books!! i know the feeling of wanting to snap your fingers and this being all over!!! xxx

oo what time? dont tell me 12/half 12 i wanted that haha have to take the day off work!! i can breathe fine but where i got so used to breathing through my mouth i just breathe through my mouth now the only time i breathe through my nose is when i sleep! but its just where its still swollen up there if you cant breathe! i played sims everyday haha im such a sad person i know! but i went out shopping in the end but took it easy!

Sofs its normal mine today feels really bruised but remember he did sand away the bone lol its going to be bruised and feel more achey on some days! this is the worse today tho its felt i think its because i fell UP the stairs and i landed quite hard which hurt my nose for some reason haha dont laugh! its throbbing right now as i type like someone has punched it so dw xxx

True, and to be fair, he had to do a hell of a lot of sanding down my camel hump lol!! swelling be gone god dammit!!! xxx

oh god mine aches, i dare even touch it to put cream on!!! and it feels sore when i laugh as well so im avoiding that too lol…this is so weird! i DEF had alot of sanding too! the next 2 months are going to go slooowwwllllyyyyy i can tell lol..

yeah yawning is a right b*stard too cos that seems to really hurt my nose. I very gently apply cleanser and moisturiser on it using a cotton bud and literally just stroke it over the nose with out any pressure than feels good lol xx

My nose kills when I laugh, feels like my stitches are going to rip open! My sister and friend hae had my in hysterics today (probably not good for my nose) but oh well, in a much better mood today now

oo mine is at 2 45 which will most probs be 3 so might see you? and sofs good idea im going to cream my nose with a cotton bud its so dry and flaky cant wait to squeeze my blackheads out going to be exciting ha! georgia try not to laugh haha its not good for your nose apprently thats what the nurse told me! but obviously laugh just try not to move your face as much! and once you clean it youl feel much better arggh i was digging all the blood out what was under the plaster near my eye where i cried blood felt amazing xxx

yeah mine was so swollen its gone down now!! haha its so hard not to do anything without having a panick attack or hurting it! iv been walking around with a plank face for the last week i look like a man xxx
