Hi Kate I’m havin mine on Monday so will let you know how it goes!

Hi Kate, I had open rhinoplasty two weeks ago with Mr Gonschior at Highgate Hospital in London and I’m in love with my new face!

My initial consultation was in January, there, my patient coordinator talked to me about my concerns and recommended which surgeon she thought would be best for my procedure (Mr Gonschior). The next month, I had my surgeon consultation in Birmingham where I met Mr Gonschior. After countless consultations with many, many surgeons which cost me a fortune, I felt so comfortable and confident in him immediately. He was incredibly honest (which was refreshing after a lifetime of people saying ‘Oh but your nose is fiiiiiine!’) and he was also realistic, telling me what could and could not be achieved and making sure I was aware of this. He also made it very clear that rhinoplasty is a procedure which has quite a high revision rate (something like 15 per cent of people aren’t satisfied with the results), making sure I was well aware of the risks of things like losing sense of smell etc. While at my surgeon consultation, Mr Gonschior also took a lot of photographs of my nose and, while he let me have as much input as possible, suggested what he would like to do to it and what would best suit my face shape.

I was also given the price of surgery at the consultation (£4800) and the available dates of surgery. From there, I paid a £500 deposit which secured my date of surgery (the remaining amount has to be paid a couple of months before surgery unless you use the available finance options). Then, after what felt like a lifetime of waiting for surgery, on the 19th of July I checked into Highgate. The nurses were incredibly lovely; I had a bit of a bad start that morning as I was dehydrated and couldn’t produce any urine for the pregnancy test! I got myself all worked up and started crying (how bloody embarrassing!) but the nurses were unbelievably kind and supportive (as was Mr Gonschior, who suggested I should be put on a drip to help me wee (again, how embarrassing). When I woke up after surgery, I had no bruising at all! I was expecting to be black and blue, but I had nothing at all, I was so surprised!

The recovery period is tough, I won’t lie. Two weeks of having a lot of pressure on your face takes its toll; you’ll be unable to breathe through your nose, and breathing through your mouth gives you a sore throat and chapped lips and it’s quite difficult to sleep. To help with the bunged up feeling, I put Vicks rub on my chest which did really help. I was given a nasal spray to use, too, but because my nostrils were totally blocked it was impossible to use.

I had my splint removed yesterday and was just absolutely amazed; there’s no other word I can use. I had no idea it would be so lovely, or even could be. I just can’t believe a nose this nice is on my face! It’s changed my features entirely; my cheekbones look more defined, my face looks more slender and my eyes are more prominent. I’m still a bit swollen around the bridge of my nose, the tip and my nostrils but the nurse said that’s mostly due to the pressure of the splint. Overall, I’m ecstatic with the results, and this is with swelling! I can’t imagine how happy I’m going to be when the swelling goes down and I can put a bit of makeup on and see myself properly!

Overall, my experience has been amazing! It’s something I’ve wanted for an unbelievably long time and I just can’t believe I have such a nice nose! Even with the swelling and the spots and rashes from the slpint/plaster (I was NOT informed this would happen, prepare for a breakout!), I have more confidence than I ever did with my old nose. I’m just so happy! Although I’ve had a great experience along with a lot of other people, it’s still really important that you do your own research and make sure you’re 100% comfortable with the surgery and confident in your surgeon!

Feel free to add me if you have anything else you’d like to ask, I’ll be putting pictures up once my spots subside (it better be bloody soon!) so you can have a look :) Take care!

I’ll give a little account of my experience yesterday so that you’ve got some idea of what to expect: I had closed rhino at Highgate, i arrived at 7:30 and had all the prep from the nurses (who were all very kind) and dr gonschior popped in to confirm what i wanted doing. I went down to theatre at around 11, hadn’t really been nervous up until that point as i couldn’t belive it was actually going to happen! Little tip: don’t tense your hand when the anaesthetist tries to put the needle in, it’s much more comfortable if you relax!!

I woke up at half 1, after having the hump removed, septum lifted and sides of the nose shaved down and felt very floaty from the anaesthetic! It was a bit painful when i woke up so had a dose of painkillers and luckily haven’t experienced any pain at all for the last 24 hours since then! I was in and out of sleep for the next few hours and felt quite weak. Apparently the anaesthetic can make some people feel a bit sick afterwards, but luckily that wasn’t a problem for me. I was ready for some dinner at about 5, which definitely gave me some strength back (the food was pretty good too!). Around 7pm the nurse came in to discharge me, gave me my prescriptions, changed the bandages. I got dressed after that and took a small walk around and went home at 8.

I still felt fairly weak and drowsy for the rest of the evening, but slept ok. I had loads of pillows behind me so i was almost sleeping upright which helped with breathing and helping the gunk run down the throat (like when you have a cold), with a v pillow to stop me tossing and turning. Today i feel more normal but going to take it easy and i expect will be napping quite a lot on the sofa! My eyes seem to be constantly swelling but i think this is probably the worst it’s going to get. The throat gets very dry from breathing only through the mouth so it’s good to have a drink by you at all times, and definitly get some straws in, that makes it much easier to drink.

I can tell my nose is looking better already, the bandages over my nose run in a nice smooth line (no hump!) and i can see a flat septum when i take the gauze off, so that’s making me feel happy about it already! Just had a call from MYA to check i’m ok, so all in all everyone’s done a great job of looking after me!

    Hey guys!

I’m having my op on the 13th November and would appreciate if you could send me Before and after pictures. After booking my op I’ve read quite a few bad reviews on Mr G so id love to be reassured.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me.

    Hi girls

I had closed with Mr Gonschoir on 16th October (2 weeks ago tomorrow) at Fitzroy and I had my cast off yesterday!

Happy to tell you all about it and you can have a look at my pictures too. It is easily the best thing I have every done and I cannot rate him highly enough. He is extremely skilled and can perform even the slightest changes, let along the big ones. I wanted some major and some subtle differences to my nose and (despite the swelling) I can see that he has done exactly what we talked about!
