Hi, I’m having the op at the end of January with Dr G. Have read through the forums to give me an idea of what to expect but recently have found some posts about girls noses being swollen for weeks/months after, which has got me scared…
What should I expect? Is it different for everyone? Starting to wonder if it’s worth it

Hey,
Recovery from rhinoplasty is definitely different for everyone, some people can breathe straight away others not for weeks. Some people get worse swelling than others, some get black eyes etc some dont.
It just depends on ther person. Swelling is probably the worst part of it. I personally had no pain what so ever after my op, had no black eyes just a little yellow bruising, and can breathe normally again 20 days PO, had a really runny nose as well until about 2 days ago.
When my cast came off I was so so swollen especially front the front on my bridge and between my eyes. Its gone down a lot over the past 8days but still loads of swelling there. Unfortunately though swelling is just part of it and there is little you can do about it apart from let your body heal.
I think all girls will agree that its an up and down journey and some days you’ll love your nose and some days hate it. I personally dont know whether it has been worth it until I see the final result around the 1 year mark.
If you are very unhappy with your nose I’d say go for it, I think we will all end up happy at the end of it, its just quite a long journey.
Hope this helps a little xx
georgia defaintly said it right! different for everyone! i had no pain, i dont think anyone does to be honest more like having the flu! i loved my nose from the day the cast come off but after 3 weeks the swelling got so bad it looked like my old nose and i hated it lol but its gone down now, but i must say do not expect to be really happy with it straight away, it does take a year to heal even longer sometimes! but so far i dont regret anything, i rather put up with swelling and bruising than have my old bulbous boxers nose back x
Thats ok
just accepted you xx
Thanks girls, i’m glad i know this now so i can be a little more prepared for it
I had open septorhinoplasty on 5/12/11,I can honestly say it is the easiest procedure I have had,no pain at all, just feel stuffy in my nose,I have been told that it can take months for the swelling to subside,so Im prepared for that, loved my nose from the moment the cast was removed, but not everyone does,I just can not believe how he transformed my old beak,in to what I have now,I am so happy with my results, even though my nose is swollen. Wishing the year away,to see the end result, the advise I would give is be patient, its not easy,as we all want immediate results, look at what you had before, and why you are doing this,it will be the best thing you ever do for you honey, and you will have the forum to support you, good luck, xxx
Hey!
I had closed rhinoplasty on 01/12/11… Personally, I didn’t love my nose straight away but only because when the cast came off I was sooooo swollen and the cast had left me with a bruise so from the second the cast was off it had blown up! It then went down and I started to like it more and more, now I’m 4 weeks p/o the swelling is so random it really is a roller coaster of emotion (you’ll hear that phrase a lot, trust me it’s so true) one day… Like today…. My nose shrinks and it’s cool, but then all it’ll take is me over doing it or going out in the cold and bam! It’s swollen again for a few days and I’m back to being pissed off for 5 days out of 7 lol. Then comes the obssessive looking in the mirror and seeing what u think is a bump an ur nose slowly morphing back into what it used to look like…… Obviously it’s not but u will start to have lumps and bumps here and there because of the swelling!!! I’ve got a horrendous chesty cough so no doubt my nose is going to blow up! Lol! I would say this is a difficult journey cos ur so close yet so far from wanting what you’ve always wanted. I have absolutely no patience but deep down, I know it’ll be months before I start to see results (I have no definition in my nose at the moment). But all in all, it’s totally worth it. I still prefer my swollen nose to the hook I had before! If its worth having, it’s def worth waiting for
