Rhinoplasty – Strange Smell?

I just wondered if any of the post op girls are experiencing a strange smell? It’s pretty much constant….and I don’t know why it is? Or am I just super weird?

No Ive had it,It was like a fishy smell,then it changed to like a sickly smell,another member has had it too.xxx

Hey hun, no your not weird lol. I personally havent had it, but then again I cant really smell anything at all. Iv heard from at least 2 others on here that they have had it.

Im sure it will go soon xxx

9. Why do I occasionally have a funny smell in my nose?

At several weeks post-operatively, you may notice an unusual or bad smell in your nose. It is caused by the accumulation of mucus in the nose due to a reduced mobility of the “mucus blanket” within the nose. As you recall, the nose secretes a cup of mucus a day that is propelled into the back of the throat by the nasal lining cells. After surgery, the physiology of the nose takes four to six weeks to come back to normal, but in the interim you can clear the mucosal blanket with intranasal saline sprays (e.g., Ocean Spray).

this is going to sound gross but i notice the smell real bad when i clean the bogeys out my nose! actually smells like morning breath lol! it needs to go now. im just over a month post op, im guessing its normal? il ask him when i see him this month xx

imagine a world without google! id be clueless about everything lol xxx

I had this also… I am 15 weeks post op and it’s gone now, thank God!!! xxx

I have just searched for this as have the same kind of smell…very unusual. Thought i had an infection but feel better after reading this. x

Hi Girls . .I was told by the Nurse that I may smell a rotten smell and she explained it would be the inner stitches that hav to dissolve over a period of time . .not looking fwd to it after reading yr descriptions !!.. xx

Ohh is that what it is!! cos i find i can smell it more if i touch my nose (even though your not supposed to be touching it lol) maybe its where im moving the internal stitches and it makes the smell!!

Im 12 weeks post op and I still experience the strange smell, the internal stitches seemed to have moved position think the skin has grown over them to be honest there is a massive lump in there,I can see it when I tilt my head back.xxx
