risk of infection? is it high?

Im having my pre op tomorrow and I have my op in 2 weeks! what is the risk of infection been reading alot on here and its started to scare me even more…!!! obvs I understand tht there is a risk but how high is this risk reaistically?

my surgeon told me its 5 in 20…but his record was 2 in 20..so ask for ur surgeons numbers, it all depends on how much cutting, burning, stitching etc is involved aswell as just developing an infection. xx

arrr 5 in 20 is high. hu did u have?..if you get an infection can you heal easily? what are the chances of it being really serious!! read some discomforting things on here ….just dnt want infection how long cn u not wear deodrasnt for? x

5 in 20 is a quarter. Thats very high. Dont worry though baggers it doesnt mean u will hun. U make sure when you have had it done u take ur meds and rest x x

I had an infection but caught it quick and used everything I could to clear it. It was a stubborn one but now I’m absolutely fine. xx

yehas long as u take ur meds ul be fine..most infections r easily cleared up with a course antibs its only if the infection has time yo spread from the wound into the pocket u would need more surgery..i bet thts more like 0.5 in 20 lol! i put deo on the next day..a roll on,well tried coz u cant reach v well lol xx

The risk of getting an infection from surgery in this type of hospital is far less than in a general hospital due to the nature of the patients that are in a general hospital. The risk of contracting for example an MRSA infection or CDiff infection are considerably less HTH

invest in some savlon wound spray and blow dry your scars dry on a low setting. I swear that stopped me from getting a bad infection and my very minor blips from getting any worse. I had an internal suture hanging out, I snipped it with scissors myself and sprayed that stuff on every day and blow dried it dry. I started spraying at the first sign of any yellowy scabs, I think it was about 4-5 weeks after op. xxx

This is what worries me too! My op is in 4 wk’s and I think I can cope with the op and pain ect but when I think about it what makes me nervous is the possibility of getting an infection! I know u shouldn’t read all The story’s but when looking into my BA I wanted to know what risks I was taking and they r all flooding bk to me haha.

BUT I do think that if u do everything u surgeon tells you and don’t over do things then fingers crossed everything will be fine! I think when u start getting this close to the op u start worrying more and kinda talking yourself in and out of it!

Just think of the positives and why your doing this and it will all be worth it in the end! If ever there is a message from one of the girls saying they have got an infection 9 times out of 10 a few days later they r saying they have their meds and it’s under control!!

Try not to worry and work yourself up over it hunni xxx
