two weeks before and after i was told, i know theres girls on here that find it really hard to stop, and have smoked right through, i stopped on new years day and had my op on monday, but i plan on not smoking again, as i didnt smoke much unless i was drinking xx

They advise that you give up 2 weeks before the Op, not sure about after!

I’m a smoker, but I was naughty and didn’t give up…I was smoking on the day of my Op, before and after!

I wish I’d tried to give up cause maybe I’d have stuck at it after the Op and wouldn’t be smoking now :?

Lol!! That’s exactly what I’m like…it’s that 1st cigarette of the day that gets me every time! If I could get up in the morning and not have it, I think I’d give up ok xx

I got told 2 weeks before and after, not only because it thins the blood but it cuts off part of the oxygen to your skin or something like that. Also you can get gangrene if you smoke after your op as it can affect the healing process. Tina2011 posted a really scary link about it! My op is in 5 days but I gave up just before new years as I know that I would find it harder to quit mid month as opposed to the beginning. I’m not going to lie, it’s been really tough for me, especially in the mornings as I’m used to smoking about 10 a day and even more at the weekends! :( I suppose I’ve been so focused on quitting because I’m so so so scared of something going wrong when I go under GA that I’ve been sort of forced into doing it! Some people carry on smoking and are fine but personally I would advise you to quit or at least cut down, just in case xx

I would suggest giving up if you can just to be safe but I’m 8 weeks po and smoked all the way through had to have a sneaky ciggie round the corner from the hospital just before as I was so nervous and had one as soon an I came out and was back to smoking about 7 or 8 a day after that and was fine xxx

Two weeks before and after youre advised to stop. But its not a requirement, the nurse told me to cut down. I have been on one a day she said that was fine. xxx
