I would have thought your GP, but others may say MYA. it’s more personal from your GP and they know you better :) xx

Do most take the time as sick?, or just book annual leave?

    Menu

Do employers actually give people sick to have their boobs done? I think my boss would laugh in my face lol x

Hmmm I asked for a sicknote from MYA but my surgeon wrote me a letter stating i had surgery.

So had to get a proper sicknote from my GP – I took the time as sick x

lol Lindsey and lulup, mine would hit the roof if I’d been off sick to have my boobs done. I took anual leave x

    Menu

So my GP then? Lol. Thanks cuks xxx

As for the rest I wouldt know sorry girls. I’m self employed and work for nurse bank. I don’t have to tell them why I’m off sick as long as I have a sick note. Legally if you don’t want to tell them you don’t have to. x

Yep Holly – I just rang the Dr’s and they sent it me in the post x

I just asked them to put Breast Surgery x

    Menu

I sent my MYA letter to personnel at work so that nobody in my dept saw it. Then when I returned to work I filled in a self certificate form. I didn’t have to get a GP note. I still haven’t given my GP the letter the hospital give you to give them.

    Menu

Yep quite right you dont have to legally tell them..

I’m a midwife but i am taking 4 weeks annual leave, i dont mind as ive told everyone im having my boobs done. xx

    Menu

I only need proof as if I don’t book shifts through nurse bank for so long, they will take me off the system… I got told I had to stay out of a hospital environment for two months. But I have told EVERYONE about my new babylons haha, so that doesn’t matter with me lol xx

i had two wks off work – co car driver so was not insured on car for 1st wk x

    Menu

You got told to stay out of a hospital environment for 2 months ? Did they say why ?

My surgeon knows what I do for a living and I’m having 4 weeks off a fellow midwife had 2 weeks off.

    I shouldn’t be for an infection risk as that’s ludicrous :( x x

    Menu

My surgeon said – I’m sure he told me two months… maybe it was two weeks? Lol! Can’t go back much before then anyway because of manual handling – I’m a nurse auxiliary, no way i’ll be able to turn a patient after just a few weeks so i’m just gona stay off until i feel ok to go back. its my 2nd job anyway and i go back to normal work on feb 3rd so its not too bad xx

    Menu

Probs may have been 2 weeks, another friend had an uplift and BA and she had 3 weeks off.

Yep that’s why I’ve opted for a month off as I work on delivery suite so can be quite heavy work. X x not long now x

    Menu

Ah good thinking!… I work with elderly so the majority of my day is hoists and turning, plus I have to wait for new unifrom now to fit my boobs, and that always takes ages to arrive ha! xx

Since my last post I spoke to a girl at work who had a boob job, and took the time off sick, Ive kind of changed my mind on the subject, It is sick leave, im not going on holiday etc, Im going to be sat at home in pain and will need to resume light duties when I return to work. So I will be taking 2 weeks off as sick leave.

    Menu

That’s good lulu! Yeah u shouldn’t have to use your own time up, it’s far from taking a holiday lol x

Just spoke to my pc she says that there is a template for the sick form saying you have had a surgical procedure and need to take x amount of time off and its signed by the surgeon, is this a sick note? is this sufficient?

    Menu

That’s the one that they printed off for me lulu, they can print it on MYA headed paper or just plain paper. Mine wasn’t actually signed by my surgeon, just his name at the bottom. Double check it tho cos mine had a spelling mistake! Didn’t realise until it was too late. I think it depends where you work/how much time you’ve had off as to whether you need a GP note too. The lady in personnel said I could self certificate which just meant I filled in a return to work form and signed it.

I’m amazed that people can take it as sick leave! I’m all for people having new boobs and everything (i want some lol) but why should your boss have to pay for you to go off sick? Sorry… i’ll go back to my controversial home…

    Menu

i wish i could take my time off as leave, because me and my partner own our businesses, then no work = no pay, we are enjoying the week off together, but hes back next week, and i will do admin and the joys of tax returns :( so ur all lucky xx

    Menu

First it’s not a sick note it is a FIT note. Second be careful, if you are only entitled to SSP you’ll only get roughly £16 a day and the first 3 days are unpaid. You have to hand in a fit note after 7 calender days. They can withdraw company sick pay if they feel you are taking the piss as it isn’t usually contractual, it’s a benefit. You have decided to have the surgery, it’s not life or death so why should your company pay you for the time off and then give you the holidays on top?

Taking the piss if I am honest and if I was your employer and I found out I would not be happy at all.

    Menu

Yes the surgery is voluntary, but being self employed I’m literally entitled to nothing. And in my second job I only need a sick note in order for them to keep me on the system. Not for sick pay. While I’m off I am not entitled to a penny. And that is also the case for me if I am genuinely ill. I just have to make sure I have my own money kept back for a rainy day as my NHS contract is casual and self employment gets you bugger all. If I had to have heart surgery, I still don’t get sick pay from my job. But I have to have a sick note in order for them to let me return to work when I am fit enough to do so.

    Menu

Joannabella – know the feeling hun. If I’m ill, I still work my self employed job cos I have to. It sucks lol x

    Menu

Lulu – I haven’t been given anything saying I have to take time off signed by my surgeon? Do I need to ask for that? xx

(did try to do just one post – stupid phone!)

I took two weeks unpaid leave and two weeks sick (full pay) my boss knew about my op….at the end of the day the company I work for pay my wages and if they are ok with it then in my book that’s fine….it’s not like the taxpayer is paying my wages so I don’t see the big deal…AND I won’t apologise for taking it as sick either so feel free to all jump in and have a go :)
