Sick phobia :-(

My BA is on Monday but I’m getting myself in such a state after reading quite a few girls have been throwing up lots after surgery! I have a horrible phobia of being sick, enough to make me want to not go through with my op by the thought of me vomiting 🙁 I just want to know how common it is and why so many girls are throwing up afterwards?! The nurse said I can be given an anti sickness drug but is it even affective if people are being sick still days after their op???

@Zahava have you had anaesthetic before? if you have and weren’t sick that time you should be ok.
I work on a surgical ward and I’ve been there since september and I’ve only seen a handful of people be sick after general anesthetic- and its usually because the eat and drink too quickly after fasting for such a long time but sometimes (not often) a side effect of the strong drugs they use to put you to sleep.
Maybe if you are sick you could ask for them to prescribe anti sickness tablets to take home with you? I think you can buy them over the counter aswell. But don’t quote me I’m not an anaesthetist just a student nurse.

Don’t worry about it tho, You’ve been waiting for these boobs, don’t let this get in the way! If you are sick the nurses will give you anti sickness tabs when you in the hospital. Warn the anaesthetist your scared of being sick before your op he might give you some meds when your asleep.

I empathise, I’m terrified of being sick, I feel like I’m going to die! The only time I was sick was the first time I got up to the toilet and I think it was more motion sickness from the morphine I’d had. But I’d only had water so I only brought up water. The anti sickness stuff is great and if you need more they will give you more 🙂
Some people throwing up days after is generally a side effect and effects a small amount of people.

Ahhhh thank you ladies, that’s made me feel better, I hate being sick and I’ll do absolutely anything to prevent it, so I’ll make sure anybody and everybody knows on my op day haha! Hopefully the mess will keep me vomit free! Xx

Hi Hun, I had my BA last Friday and I was also terrified of being sick afterwards! I asked them to give me an anti sickness shot whilst I was out and they said that they do this anyway. When I came round I wasn’t sick and didn’t feel nauseous, even when I stood up. Just drink lots of water when you come round 🙂 xxxx

I felt ill when I came round vomiting and dizzy just awful recovery but I am a sickly person and I also panic and hate being sick , the hospital staff were great tho and kept me in over night even tho I was supposed to be going home xx
