Silicone risks – Lupus?? Started by: newboobies ★* 。 •

I have friends in the US with implants who have recently asked me about the risk of auto-immune diseases with silicone (like Lupus etc). Apparently they don’t use silicone over there because of the risks, and mainly have saline instead (although this is still coated in a silicone shell!). It’s got me a little worried. Anyone know anything about this?

hey hun, its perfectly fine, i did my research and asked my surgeon and he said there was no reason it would be any different for me from anyone else. the main risk is coming off your medication for 2wks before and 2wks after and how this will affect u. the nurse and surgeon will need your medical records from your gp and a letter stating whether he thinks your fit enough to undergo surgery and risk coming off the medication for that amount of time xx

Sorry, should have mentioned – the possibility that silicone implants might contribute to CAUSING Lupus as well as exacerbating this and other autoimmune diseases x
