SMOKING!!!!!!

hi,
I’m a heavy smoker. I’ve seen the nurse today and she said that i need to stop because I’ll end up with bad scars. Does anyone smoke at all before the op?

I stopped 2 days before the op (had a cheeky one on the way up there, bloody nerves
and didnt have one for around 4 days after the op.
my scars are fine! xx

i gave up 2 weeks before op well sort of i was useing nicoten patches but having the od crafty fag here and there ans about 3days before my op i started smokeing due to nerves so you might as well say i didnt really give up just cut down a little.you havnt got to give up for the ga they say its for the healing process after your op xxx

i cant stop its hard when all am thinking abt is my ba then nervous get the better of me lol x

i think it’s because it it affects the oxygen levels in your blood and can hinder healing!! i stopped in february and have been saving my extra money towards my op, it’s defo worth it as your paying alot of money so ya want to give yaself the best chance of healing hun xx sam xx

I smoked throughout!my pc secretly told me she did too, not saying ignore your nurse but I had no probs at all, my scars look so good (am 4 months post op) its better to carry on if its going to really stress you out as stress slows healing down too!xx

thank you all. Well i’ve manage to cut down to 6-7 aday. i can’t stop it at all. i used to smoke 20-25 a day. so i’m pround of myself!!

I smoke about 10-15 a day!xx

i managed to quit 5 weeks before, im now 9 weeks post op and started smoking again on and off about 2weeks ago, and i must say that i healed perfectly, scars are perfect, im not sure weather this is down to stopping smoking but it defo couldnt of have done any harm! xx

hi i smoke and did before and after my ba and i crnt say ive noticed any change in healing to anyone elses ive seen. as most things they tell u before a OP it’s all precautionary and i doubt it will have been proven just like drinking water before a GA xxx

of corse not around ten a day and my scars are fine realy small n totaly closed up. i didnt need the steri strips most ppl get after 7 day check either as the nurse said theyd healed realy quikly xxx
