I have been trying to stop smoking and finding it very hard i have cut down , did anyone smoke the day b4 the op after knowing not good for you ?
Hi Sue…..
I smoked even though I was told to stop two weeks before op…. i tried to cut down but didn’t really do very well at that to be honest lol…. i was more or less smoking like I normally would….. However…. my surgeon (dr falladhar)wasn’t very happy with me on the day of my op when he asked if i’d stopped smoking and I told him i hadn’t I’d just cut down…. he just gave me a lecture about the risks and complications and asked me did I still want to go ahead and I told him I did…. I even had fags on the way to the hospital the morning of my op….. It’s more for anasthetic etc that they tell you to stop I think and also cos it makes you heal better…. but to be honest, i haven’t had any problems at all, my scars have healed great…. thankfully….
Don’t take this as me telling you to smoke mind lol…. thats up to you.
good luck with yr op.
hayley xx
yes i did i wasnt a big smoker but 2 weeks leading up to the op i was so nervous i was puffin away.
i tried to do it as litttle as possible though.
and admitidly when my surgeon asked if id smoked i swore blind i hadnt woops xx
Lol Shelley i think we all do that, and we hope that they believe us. When i siad i didnt smoke i coughed as soon after i said it 😳 felt like i gave myself away lol
I’d have told my surgeon I’d stopped smoking but he was crafty lol… he came in to the hopsital room and said “right who’s been smoking” lol… I doubt very much he could smell it on me as I’d rinsed my mouth out with mouthwash and sprayed on my clothes and washed my hands to get rid of the smell lol… having said that a non smoker can always smell smoke.
He was ok about it just went on about the risks etc…. still went ahead with my op – i did think for aminute when he was giving me a lecture that he wasn’t going to go ahead cos he did say to me “do you want to leave it today and come back when you’ve stopped smoking” of course my answer was NO! ha ha. xx
oh my god i quit smoking on the 3rd july as my op was on the 16th and i still havent had one.. im thinking i should keep it up because i feel a bit fitter but i miss it sooo much!!! i just want one fag now… x
I am aware that some of our patients have been posting emails on the forum regarding the issue of being advised to give up smoking pre and post operatively. I would like to emphasise at this point that the medical advice given to our clients by surgeons and their clinic nurses at pre operative screen should not be taken lightly. Although MYA offer cosmetic elective surgery, it must be understood that this does not in any way effect the impact that smoking both pre and post operatively can have on your health. As well as posing an anaesthetic risk, the effects of smoking can seriously delay wound healing, which will manifest itself often by becoming a wound infection, this can put the client at high risk of possible implant removal for a lengthy period of time. As we stipulate not smoking pre operatively as one of our instructions to clients, it should be known that both the surgeon and anaesthetist have every right to cancel their surgery on the procedure day if they wish to do so. We can only advise patients, it is ultimately their own responsibility to utilise our instructions and advice.
Many thanks
