My PC was ABSOLUTELY ADIMANT, that if you smoke your healing time is twice that of someone who doesnt, she said scarring is effected and everything to do with your body healing. And advised to not even touch one for 4 weeks prior or 6 weeks after

People who smoke.. has your recovery been good or bad ? do you think this is gospel ? have people who smoke had more problems with their boobs ??Xx

i am a fellow smoker too…i saw my surgeon today and she said to me for a ba just try to cut down…if you was having a “lift” then you need to stop smoking for 4 weeks prior to surgery…apparantely your blood circulation is comprimised if you smoke and you need “clean” blood to circulate for the healing process…not blood damaged by smoking…I will cut down b4 my ba but I am sure there are many girls who havant stopped….

My PC told me exxactly the same Vicsta, however, when I saw Gary Traynor…he told me I had to stop smoking….not for the surgery but just because it was bad for me….lol….like i didn’t know that. At my pre op the nurse advised me to cut down and try not to smoke the morning of the surgery….as if!!!

I have had surgeries before (not like this though) and personally i have had no issues with delayed healing….although this is more luck I think as medically is is shown to slow down the healing process…I guess they are just covering themselves and making you fully aware of the risks.

Hope this helps. Good luck xxx

hi girls, I have been a heavy smoker (20 a day) for 13 years now im now 29.

My pc and my nurse stressed to me that i needed to quit as the incisions may not heal properly and it could lead to infection.

I have wanted this done for so long now, so I decided to listen to the experts.

I have now not had a cigarette since the 2nd of jan this year and my op is on friday and to be honest I think im going to be able to quit permantly now as it has not bothered me!!

I have been so pre-occupied about the op and what i need to get that i have not thought about smoking and if I did think about fags i just thought about my expensive boobies.

And the other massive benifit of giving up is that the money i would have spent on fags i can now use to pay my loan off each month BONUS!!!! (and have some money spare!!!!)

If you can give up I would. Risking the healing process is really not worth it.

good luck to every one xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It takes longer to heal and more likely to have complications if you smoke because smoking reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of your red blood cells, in order to heal your body cells need this oxygen to help them multiply into new tissues e.g. your scars healing over and the tissues around your implants.
