so stressed and upset. scared of speaking to work feel i am being judged

I work for Boots chemist and have been for 5years. i have a good record and when i realised there was no spaces available in sept (only week i have off work this year) i was told august would be only available time this yr and now im so worried cause i phoned the hotline for my work/company and they said they do not cover staff sick pay for cosmetic surgery so will need to ask if they will give me the time off and they are so unhelpful in my store and very bitchy

holiday is booked in january which is ovisley too soon to book for surgery for around now and i only def decided a few months ago after years of deciding.

i heard under muscle if painfull and i wont be able to move alot and also cant travel back home to isle of wight from london on public transport for 48hrs.

im so worried they wont give me time and ill miss my op this year, i want it so badly. will have money to set a date in 10days. please help if anyone has any advice or has experienced same problem with work’

alot of ppl keep saying negative stuff to me at work asking why im doing it but they dont see the real me under all the push up bras to understand!! so upset :(x

im unsure about holidays to take off too! i havent even told work yet but i dont work for a big firm so im hoping they’ll be flexible with me. im going to have a meeting soon about how i can go about it, as i need another 2 weeks off for my holiday! im going to take a week off but im so scared ill need more time off, but im going to ask if i need more time off just to have it off unpaid and not part of my holidays. is that not an option for you?

all my friends and family say oh why you having it done your boobs look nice etc but again they havent seen me without a bra on and they look completely different dont they!

but dont worry hun, im sure you’ll sort something out! even if it means having sick time off with no pay, bad option but necessary if you really want this!

Thanks hunnie im trying to calm down cause im getting myself worked up about it. im so lucky that my fella is so supportive about it i cant even mention it to my mother cause she wont understand and she worries too much. im 25 and when i got a tattoo done on holiday she got well upset! its funny cause my younger sister does sumthing like that and its ok! i totally understand, those that no me well and have seen me in a bikini totally understand why i am doing this and i have researched a little on my rights etc with work.

its only because they will have to cover me on days off and it will definatly be unpaid. i think any surgery should be covered really because we are taking the risks and are unable to work! i definatly want this. i am scared they will disapline me or dissmiss me? im sure it wouldnt be allowed?

i cant wait to have them done!!!!!

I’m a paramedic and am having my BA doen on wednesday, at the end of the day no company can refuse sick leave neither can they sack you while you are on the sick, it is against the law.

I told my place that i was going in hospital for breast surgery (did not tell them what i’m having done, they dont need to know), i also said that i need 3-4 weeks recovery time at home. and also i go back to work after 4 weeks then im off again for 2 weeks for my holidays.

I am taking it as sick leave and there has been no problems with work. Boots should not have an issue with this, at the end of the day they can not do anything about it, you are entitled to sick leave and hoiday leave. If a huge company like the place i work for can sort it and accept it then it should be a piece of piss for boots…….haha sorry.

thanks Sharon, i spoke to a PA recently and she said i can ask for authorised leave for recovery. how long do you think ill need off then i thought it was only a week – 10 days. i think i might need a litle longer now cause im havin under the muscle and only little so i imagine ill be quite sore..

i read online companys are saying employees should have surgery on our holidays but i cant get a date then so its outside of my holiday. im kinda dreading talking to them cause they will be really judgemental i no everyone will be talking behind my back.. if i catch them i will question what they have to say about me.

hi just to let you know i have spoken to work today.. i was dreading it and had nightmares all night. thankfully their reaction wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. im just waiting on the dates when my money comes through (i got the pin and no card which was frustrating!!!) then i can set it.

i have to see if i can swap a week off with sumone at wrk which is gna b akward cause i dont think she will or if i cant arrange that will be as unpaid leave once ive asked my manager.

i mentioned that i cant travel back from london on public transport within 48hrs but my line manager said she nos sumone who has and it wont matter

is this true or am i taking a risk with DVT? has anyone travelled home after????

How much recovery time is needed depends on what job you do, i was originally told 2 weeks but when my surgeon found out what job i do he advised 4 weeks.

Awww well i’m glad you seem to be getting things sorted with work, unless your line manager is medically trained ignore any advice she gives you.

You will probably be better checking the risk of dvt and travelling with a doctor or even nhs direct will help, they are great, give them a ring. Any surgery a person has it is far better for them the sooner they can get up and start moving about, being mobile greatly reduces the chances of dvt.

I am starting to feel nervous now about my op haha

Yeah, it depends on ur job. I had my ba on tues 22nd and am back to work Wed this week. I am totally fine and was up and about on day 3 and had stopped by pain killers half way through day 2! I defo dont need 10 days off work. When you tell MYA what job you do – they usually advise you. Eg office job a week or hairdresser 2 weeks

awsome thankyou girls xx i had to speak to one person at work who i could swap my holiday week with and i asked her if she had any plans going away etc and if she wdnt mind. i told her what having done and she said she isnt going away but always has that week off so wdnt swap so now im waiting for my manager to get back frm holiday and ask for unpaid time off. i hope she understands. not sure how to bring it up!! any tips anyone ???? all the best with ur op Sharon. and ksofy hope ur healing well xx i keep dreaming about getting time off work its going to be such a weight off my shoulders when its sorted and i have a date. then im going to be sooooo nervous!!!!! xxxxxx
