I had wanted a BA for years. In 2008 i had booked with a private surgeon but cancelled because of the pending recession and thought my money could be put to better use. Early 2011 i made a firm decision that i was again saving for a christmas time op. I told my kids in April and in May started making appointments and doing my research. I saw a couple of surgeons with Mya and thought that i had found the man for the job. i did however have an appt with another company and decided to go along with it so that i could compare companies and surgeons. I went to the hospital Group in Bromsgrove and met with Mr Sultan Hassan. He was fantastic! I never felt rushed or that it was a salesy type of meeting and he answered all of my questions and explained/discussed my options. I left with confidence but wanted to weigh up the pro’s and cons of both companies before committing. I booked by the end of August for my op on December 17th but hadn’t decided on the size. I was able to meet with Mr Hassan again in November to confirm the size and have any questions answered.

December 17th finally arrived! I had been called on Thursday the 15th to advise me of a 8am admission time. i was so calm in the lead up to the op and maybe it was because it was all so surreal as i had waited for this day for so long.

We arrived shortly after 7am and was getting sorted in my room by 7:30. I was 2nd on the list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now it was real!!! The nurses were lovely, we did the paper work, got weighed ( and lost 10 lbs that I hadn’t tried to lose so that was a bonus!!!)the anesthetist was also very nice and soon Mr Hassan was drawing on me. At 9:30 another nurse was walking me down to the theatre. ‘Ok so here we go’ is what i was thinking along with ‘ is it too late to back out?’ The anesthesist told me to lie down on the table and slip my arm out of my gown and place it on the blanket that was covering me up. I asked if i should take both arms out of the gown and before i realised what a stupid question this was the anesthetist as me if I was only having one done? I laughed out loud and thanked him for making me laugh as i really needed it. Before i knew it i was being woken up in recovey. i was in the club! I was back in my room by 11:40 and soon my husband was there with me. I didn’t peek until we could both look together. I was instanly in love with them! I knew that they were going to turn out exactly how i had hoped and dreamed about for so long. It took me awhile to come out of the GA and feel like myself again but I had expected that from previous experiences. I had requested not to be given co-codamol as i have IBS and didn’t need extra issues with constipation. Having said that what they did give me didn’t kill the pain 100% and kept me up all night except for 45mins sleep from 2:45-3:30am. I kept myself busy stalking all of my friends on facebook. Before i left the next day i asked for the co-codamol to go home with as i figured the constipation was better than no sleep.

Jumping ahead a few days, all has gone very, very well. I had my 1 week check up yesterday which was 2 days early as my husband and son have had to fly out of the country on an urgent family matter. i can’t drive yet and my other family members are all abroad this year for xmas so an early appt was my only option. The nurse at the hospital group came in on her day off to see me due to the situation which i cant tell you how much i appreciated. I cant boast enough about my experence with the Hospital group, They called me back everytime i left a message, when they told me they would ring they rang, the staff were fantastic, the surgeon was amazing , the menu was full of delicious food that you can order as much of and whenever you fancy and they dropped off an over night snack bag for after the cafeteria closed and of course what else can i say about the nurse coming in on her day off. I could not recommend them anymore. My whole experience has been an amazing journey! the help and support from the girls on this forum was a huge factor in my calm state of mind leading up to the op. Thank you to everyone who shared photos and stories, i read them all and was able to prepare myself with realistic expectations. A bonus to all of this is that i feel that i have made some friends along the way. thanks again ladies for putting up with me and taking the time to read my long dragged out story.
