stopping smoking before surgery ???

hi im due o have my op on the 5th june and i know i have been told to stop smoking before surgery do any of you ladies done the same and is it a big thing if you couldnt stop fully .. or how long is best to stop for before surgery thanx

Ill be honest i didnt stop, i cut down by like one or two but that was it and i smoked like 30 min before i went into surgery and as soon as i was discharged, i carried on as normal lol was told to stop but couldnt. Ive healed amazingly well considering i was told my scars would be purple if i smoked there really light, everyones diff but if i could of stopped i would, so maybe try ur best xx

The morning of my op my surgeon made one of the patients take a test cos he didn’t believe she had stopped. . She then admitted to having half a cigarette the day before and he sent her home!!! So just be aware I don’t know about all of them but Dr Adamo I know for sure is really strict about it xx

I couldn’t stop either but I cut down as much as I could! I didn’t smoke the mornin of my op but soon as I wa in the car on the way home I had a fag and then kept smoking as normal! I have healed pretty good so I think it depends on the person x

i stopped smoking 2 weeks b4 my opp it was so hard n going to be a month on thursday…its to much stress and bother i just wana be better now iv had enough evn tho i had a diff surgery its diffrent for everyone… what if it aint good for you it will jus add to your healing time equal more problems…not going to lie i did fancy a cigi the other day but my husbands helping me through! gudluck

i didnt stop.. or cut down ! infact i think i smoked more the week befor my op than usual! oops lol while i was waiting for my room in highgate i popped out for a cheeky one.. came back and was told i stunk of ciggys.. no1 said anything though! and im healing really well ! cut down if you can.. but from my experience i dont think it makes a difference! x

ok ladies thankyou its bloody hard tho i have been stopped for 4 weeks but had the sneaky one lol .. glad your all healing well afterwards tho even if you did smoke .. x

Before reading this thread, I thought u have to stop smoking for a year before the op. How wrong was I loooool!!!

Gals just be careful wot u post – they make a note of pre op gals who dont stop smoking and put it in ur medicals notes and if u have trouble healing they then say it was cause of ur smoking!! be careful

Just stop smoking, honestly. Especially the 5-7days prior. They’re only saying it because it will help YOU. X

yes i know they are trying to help but i just hear so many saying they dont and some saying they do just wasnt sure if it really was such a big deal lol but its a good job im 5 week tomoro clean of them
