Surgery not going ahead

So It’s two weeks today till my BA with Dr Monuir! Two weeks ago MYA called me and said I needed to have extra bloods done and an abdominal ultrasound as requested by the anaesthetist as I have a blood disorder and therefore certain things needed to be checked up on. That was fine, I drove the 60 mile round trip to Nottingham to get the bloods done and today paid £100 for a private ultrasound and was told everything was fine. When I phoned MYA with the results I was told that actually the anaesthetist working on the day of my surgery wasn’t prepared to do my GA and therefore I cannot have my surgery in two weeks as planned.

I’ve since called my haematologist who is baffled with this decision and said there are no associated risks with having a GA as long as my HB levels are fine, which they are!!

I am so absolutely frustrated! Everything is paid for, I have spent a lot extra doing everything I have been asked to do and now this! I was told I could maybe swap the date but that is not easy for me as I have an autistic son who I am main carer for and finding childcare whilst I have the op is so difficult! My husband had also already booked the time off work and now doesn’t know if he can change it! I am not very happy with the communication by MYA if I’m honest, it seems that this is all very last minute. I’m now waiting for the clinic manager to phone me back. Am thinking of cancelling altogether and going else where.

Sorry to vent! Just so upset

Hey Hun, I have a special needs/disabled daughter so I know how important it is to have everything planned. I had something similar happen. I had my OP booked for the monday, but the Wednesday or Thursday before I got a phone call from the MYA nurse asking if I was ill, as my white blood cell count was elevated, and that because it was above normal, the surgeon and anaethestist might no proceed with the OP. I was devo, as you are.. So I told them that I have had investigations previously in regards to elevated white count for no reason and that nothing showed up. I forwarded blood tests results I had IN my possession,( from my doc in OZ) . I also went to my GP in the morning for a check up, so she could tell them that I was perfectly fine..She gave me a copy of my consultation report to give MYA. Luckily that were happy to proceed. All I can say, is try and give them as much info as you can to back your case, even get your specialist to type a letter stating that they see no risk, maybe that will help.. I do know how frustrating it was not knowing… Good luck Hun, hope it all works out for you…xxxxx
