Hi every1, I’ve heard that the journey home can be very excruciating. I live about 2 and a half hours away on a good day/100 miles from highgate and I’m very worried as someone I know only had a 10 minute journey home the day after surgery and they found it unbearable and the driver had to drive at 10 mph… I know that the driver needs to go easy on bumps and corners… also, how do we wear a seatbelt?? as normal? xx

i wrapped myself in a quilt, it padded me out so i couldn’t feel the seatbelt once it was on…the bumps weren’t that bad on the way home, it was a few days after that once the numbness started to wear off that i felt it more in a car…xx

I put pillow between boobs so stuck out and put seatbelt round that so wasn’t touching me, I live 1 hour from the hospital and was fine no problems, long as driver reasonably careful, we was on motorway doing 80,

i’d say make sure you ask the nurse to give you some sick bowls..!! with all the drugs they gave me I was being sick for most the way home. But cos you still have anasthetic in you its so easy to fall asleep so don’t worry about the journey! Have some pillows! x

I really hadnt considered this. Thanks for the advice, I think pillows and a sick bowl is a good idea. Hopefully I will still be full of painkillers so wont feel too much. Its on the motorway most of the way so shouldnt be bumpy. I wanted Mr Kazzazi to do my op so I’m travelling from Aberdeen to Doncaster. I’ve prepared myself for everything from my pre-op shopping list to getting homeshopping delivered and a pile of dvds and sky plus to keep boredom at bay on my return but had overlooked the whole journey home part. It could be the longest journey ever! Lisa lou – you are almost as bad as me!!!! When do you have your op? I’m 30th Oct, if you are before me, please send your tips for a long journey.

God I hadn’t thought about this either! Thanks for posting this or I would have overlooked it. Am gonna get one of those v pillows so will do what geordie said. Thankfully I’m staying over night too so the sickness might have worn off a bit x

I hadn’t considered this either – I was more focused on coming home and seeing how many DVDs I could get through in 7 days :P

There’s some really good advice on here, especially wrapping yourself in a quilt and using pillows between you and the seatbelt! Thanks ladies!

I went home same day as op, hour and half journey. Really was ok, think body was still full of drugs! I put seatbelt around my back, like a lap belt and driver was good, no swerving, slamming brakes etc. Really was fine, I would say nothing to worry about x

i was advised to get the train,i live 3 hrs from hospital so we’ve booked into first class!! no seatbelts and at seat service sounds good to me lol xx

Only had this thought earlier, my sister is driving and she is a BAD driver! I will need to take duver and pillows for car and try to sleep – how long after the op did you girls leave after being a day patient? Hadn’t even occurred to me I would feel sick, I get car sick at the best of times. Oh god, sooo much to take in!!! I take it that once home everyone had someone to look after them? I may need to move my mum in for a few days!

I stayed overnight having had uplift and implant. 2.5 hour journey home. Felt fine, no pain at all. However I have had no pain since the op at all (now 5 weeks post op) so was probably extra lucky.

i had my ba last may and live about 3 hours away from highgate and was told i had to stay within an hours drive if i wasnt to stay in the hospital overnight so i booked into a nearby hotel. the drive there after my ba on the same day was absolutely fine and the drive home the next day was absolutely fine too, no pain whatsoever xxxx

I was told the same thing as Janeela, if I was more then an hour away from the hospital I had to stay overnight.

I’m now going to be a day case as I only live about 25mins away from hospital.

I might just do what helen11 did and put the seatbelt around my back, it sounds alot less painfull then having anything at all resting on my new puppies.

Not in until the 14th but have been thinking about this for the last couple of days.

The comments are such a help. Xx
