I haven’t been told to stop taking my contraceptive pill?! My surgery is next week (24th April) and no one’s told me to stop, and they are aware I’m on it!

Have I been missed? Oh god, what do I do? Will it be an issue?

Hi I told them I wasn’t prepared to stop the pill and it wasn’t an issue, just had to confirm I was happy with the extra risk… X

There’s extra risks if you are on the pill whilst have a major surgery such as boobs… Did they not provide you with a pack to read through?? It has absolutely everything you need to know in there.

Hi girls, I spoke to my surgeon about the pill, and apparently it’s only one brand of pill which has a high occupancies of deep vein thrombosis that they insist you stop taking. I take Rigevidon and was told it would have absolutely no effect on surgery whatsoever! If you’re concerned talk to the surgeon, but apparently the nurses are just telling everyone to stop taking it without asking which brand you take. I wasn’t taking the risk of coming off mine. Good luck all those with surgery booked, and happy healing to the rest 🙂 xx

When I went for my appointments with pc/Surgeon/nurse I was on the implanon implant.
I had it removed yesterday and started taking the mini pill today, called “Zelleta” ….
Is anyone else on this contraception pill? If so do I need to stop taking it?
My dr that prescribed it said it wouldn’t be an issue as it’s the same hormone as the implanon???
My op is 28th april! Xxx

They said to stop 2 weeks b4 and after surgery..its because the pill thins your blood so there could be a higher chance of bleeding through incisions..x

I think you will be fine to continue taking it,

the Pill doesn’t thin the blood, more the opposite as there’s just slightly more chance of clots etc. which are more common if you take the pill anyway despite surgery.

I didn’t stop taking mine. It’s really just the fact that it can higher the risk of dvt but it’s not high risk anyway, its not long surgery and u wear the tight stocking things on ur legs to help prevent dvt. I wouldn’t worry about it 🙂 xx

I think it must just depend on your surgeon then tbh! I know i stopped 2 weeks before so i’ll wait 2 weeks after, thanks everyone xx
