The Pill

Hi – not sure if advice differs between companies and pill brands but I’m on cilest and been told by nurse that I don’t need to stop my pill…
Have seen some comments on here from a few months ago saying the opposite?

i was never told to stop my pill before/after but i stopped taking it after my op because your anti-biotics stop the pill from working anyways! xx (it doesnt say in the pre-op stuff thought not to take the pill for 2 weeks before – but didnt do me any harm lol!) xx

ooh dunno what to do now like cos paranoid bout thrombosis anyway cos been on pill so bloody long.
but nurse defo said keep taking it and fetch it with me for my overnight stay hmmm x maybe i should ring her thanks xx

I’m confused about this 2 as I don’t want to stop taking it but I have been on it for so long that it makes me nervous something bad will happen. I am on microgynon. X

yeh i stopped taking it a week before as i only had my pre op one week before my op, then your on antibiotics anyway afterwards for a week, i dont know if im meant to start re taking it now i was going to ask yesterday at the clinic and totaly forgot xx

im on microgynon 30 and i have been told to stop taking it a month before x

do what ur nurse tells u… not saying the girls on here dont know what they are talking about… but diff girls have been advised on diff things…

i wasnt told to stop my pill either, and im on microgynon…
mite be something to do with blood pressure and being on the pilll… thats just a guess

i only had to take antibiotics for 3days after, but some girls have said they took it for week or 2wks after…but like i said everygirl has been advised diff according to their circumstances-
i just go by my nurse

ooh i’m on cilest too and got told to keep taking it and remember to bring it to hospital with me!! my ops tomorrow xxx

I was on Cilest and was told it was ok to keep taking it. When I came round from my op though my blood pressure was high for about a week. Not sure if it was related or not but it wasn’t too bad!

Hi girlies,
Your supposed to stop taking the pill because all contraceptive pills delay your healing process. I work in theatre and we always advise our patients to stop taking it about 2weeks before an operation. Its not compulsary though and not every1 stops taking it.
