Just a question to all the girlies who have had their op, is there anyone out there who didn’t stop taking the pill before there BA?? I just don’t want to stop taking it because it will just confuse my body all over again lol x x thank you x
i would listen to your surgeon hun, if they have said come off it, come off it, diff surgeons recommend diffrent things, the risk of blood clots is higher if you take the pill during operations, personally confusing your body isnt really a big deal if you lowering your chances of having blood clots, afterall blood clots can be very dangerous x
Ye suppose your right Hun, my nurse said it’s up to me if I want to. Think I may do now. I’m guessing you can start taking it stright after your BA? X x x
they advice stopping 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after xx
The reason you have to stop taking hormonal contraceptives is because they increase the risk of thrombosis, ie, dvt, pulmonary embolism, stroke… it is recommended by the national institute of clinical excellence that you do not take them for 2 weeks pre and post op. HTH x
Thanks girlies
I will just stop taking it now then. Thank you for your advice x x x
I asked the same question before my op and I carried on with my pill!
That doesn’t mean I recommend u do the same but I found it annoying that sum surgeons said to come off it and some didn’t and also this was my first gen anaestectic (including one for an op on the lady area for pre cancerous stuff) and never have I been told to stop it before.
The reason ur advised to stop is due to dvt but as long as ur moving about u shud avoid this! I too was worried about it messing my cycle up as I was a mare before I went on pill, in my personal op experience I had no probs post op!
If it helps I am on logynon xxx
Doh it was my third gen anaestectic not first xxx
Thanks crampyxx
it’s my 1st gen anaestectic, it’s so hard to make a decision. I know the risks and I know blot clots can be dangerous but if that bad surely they would tell you to stop and not give you the choice lol x x x
That was my point, I also researched my pill and the only time it said to stop it for an op was for an op on the legs which I could completely understand as dvt is prominent there!
I understand tho that the docs are just being cautious and respect that but I think it shud be an across the board thing if u are to stop not just a few surgeons saying to stop and a few saying not to! X
That’s extacly what I thought, I will research mine now and see what it says x x
