THE PILL – HELP!!! xxx

Hi ladies

As you are most aware we are advised to stop taking the pill 2 weeks before our op.

Any advice is much appreciated but I’m really nervous and reluctant about doing this as I went on the pill in the first place because my periods were all over the place etc.

Also this will be my 4th operation (first cosmetic and 3rd time going under general anaestectic) and I’ve never been told to stop taking my pill before??

Has anybody still taken theirs or does anybody no any more detailed info as to why we have stop taking it???

I’d like to know this too! I’m not keen to stop mine either! Don’t wanna end up preggers just after a ba! But im sure it’s something to do with DVT x

is it the same with the implant? I have that in and don’t want to take it out or my periods will be messed up for another year! xx

No idea, you’d need to speak to your surgeon xx

Not same with implant as I have the depo … Mine was due for renewal the day after my op..

I’m not sure why they say don’t take the pill for 2 weeks before

But please remember girls if you take it or not

Your medicines counter act any contraception that’s why I haven’t had my depo

Until I’ve stopped my meds.

Any antibiotics interfere with contraception and stop them working

My advice .. If you dont want to get pregnant

Use a condom ha sorry to sound sinical but your contraception

Won’t work anyway .. And although I’ve been up and about since day 1

I think yourll find you might not be in the mood for sex anyway haha xxx

Totally agree amychristina – there is something in the pill that they dont like that reacts to the antibiotics they give you thats why they say not to take it xx

its because when your on the pill you have more chance of developing a blood clot than if you wernt, which is something you do not wanna develop during or after surgery, blood clots can be fatal hun, theres a reason they tell you to stop taking your pill, i came of mine and went back on it 2 weeks after my opp, i didnt wait for my persiod i just started taking it again, i have irregular periods too, but was fine coming off and going bk on my pill xx

yup i got pregnant whilst taking the pill becouse i was taking antibiotics, id been on it for years and totally forgot about it affecting the pill.

glad now as my daughter is my life but one hell of a shock at the time lol x

thanks ladies, yeah it’s understood about pregnancies and blood clots, it’s not that that I’m baffled about :o( am not trying to be awkward am just confused!!

What confuses me is what’s so different about these antibiotics when I’ve been under general anaestectic before and never been advised to stop taking the pill? xx

Basically I must explain, why I’m really confused is 3 months back I had surgery as my cervix was covered in pre cancerous cells, I had this done under general anaestectic yet I was never told to stop taking my pill, yet the pill is for that part of the body?

Hence my confusion :S xxxx

was you mobility affected with the pre cancerous cells opp, it might me when you have a ba, you meant to rest up loads, its when your not mobile for long periods and spend alot of time sitting and laying down you more likely to get blood clots, when i had a c section i used to have a injection everyday to stop me getting blood clots as i was not as mobile as i would be normally xx

the pill thins the blood and thats y we gotta stop taking it to prevent bleeding alot on opp x

And hunny its not the general anaesthetic it’s the meds(antibiotics) that you take after your op that stop your contraception workin too xx

I was really dazed for a good 3 days after the pre cancerous op, light headed and stuff, i pretty much slept those 3 days wasn’t just the physical bit of it, i was emotionally drained :o( results recently came back fine but have to have smears every year for 10 years now grrrrrrr.

Yeah the pregnancy thing doesnt worry me as I wont be trying that for the recommended 6 weeks (bugger) it’s just how come were told not to take it for a breast op yet not told for a cervical op?? :o( god I wish was a doctor right now xx

Anybody have any more advice?? xx

Hi I had Mr Traynor for my op and he told me to continue taking my pill. I think different surgeons have different opinions though. x

Yeah I called the nurse today and she said my surgeon (Chantarasak) is qite funny about it and wants u to stop whereas others say to continue it!

Its frustrating as I really don’t know what to do and my op is 2 weeks tomorrow xxx

i would stop taking it hun, there must be a legitimate reason for them telling you too, we all have our preferences and i guess your surgeon would prefer to work on you whilst not on the pill.

I had the same op as you when i was 17/18 and had to have the yearly smears. This years was my final one and now i can go back to 3 yearly so hope you are not worrying about that too xx

ahhh thanks hun, yeah it plays on my mind, more so as i have bad anxiety with regards to smears anyway and have to take pills to chill me out for them the colposcopy was just traumatising, felt so invasive, was so glad they knocked me out for the treatment after, i just couldnt have been awake for that, not good gotta have yearly ones now but at the end of the day as much as i hate them they have to be done xxx

It will become second nature hun and you would rather they kept a regular check on you than the alternative. For a few awkward moments its a year of peace of mind. I remember looking at the screen and they sprayed the iodine i think it was and they said the white area was the pre cancerous cells. I couldnt see any other colour than white and i just broke down in tears. I was then worried about having children but i carried 2 big healthy boys You will be fine huni.

On a brighter note, soon you will have some lovely big boobies

I’m so glad I didn’t have to see that hun, u poor thing, sounds like we had the same, I had CIN3, he told me my cervix was covered ick! horrible time, eastenders has had me in bits lately too with the tania storyline :o(

Eeeeek two week today i shall be bricking it hahahaha!! what am i doing haha! nice to have an operation though thats by choice for a change :o)

hey hun, not sure about the pill but i have the contraceptive implant. Only had it put in a month ago so there was noooo way i was gonna take it out! They were totally fine with that and no problems with it. Can’t see how the pill would be any different, it’s just hormones the same as the pill. Good luck chick xx

Crampyxx, I think it was the same stage as you because they only do the letz loop when it gets to a certain stage i think. It was a long time ago and i can barely remember last year! lol

Dont brick it hun, as scary as it seems you will be very happy when you wake up. Easier said than done i know. I felt nervous sitting on the bed but the nurse said i was very relaxed as my heart rate was between 48-52bpm.

I’ve accepted you huni, i am 1 day post op with Mr Kazazzi. I was a 34b and had 380mhp unders x

yeah thats what i had letz, my poor friend has just had to have it too :o( awake like u too, makes me sad xx

Its wierd part of my is scared i think its the unknown of what u wake up to, but then part of me is so excited about that too
