So it’s 9 days till my surgery and MYA rang me yesterday and said that they’re trying to get my medical notes from my doctor just to check its okay for me to have surgery, no allergies etc.. They said to get these notes I have to pay £60!!! I rang my doctors and asked what this is about and they said its not for me to pay, as its a private company requesting my medical notes they have to pay for them. I relayed this back to MYA and their attitude was ‘well we’re not going to pay for them if you want the surgery then you pay for it or we’ll cancel’ WHAT THE HELL!? I thought maybe the £ grand I just shelled out would surely cover them being competent enough to get my medical notes!? Any one else had these problems!?

Fay that happened to me I had to pay £20 for my doctor to release my medical history records which MYA had requested. £60 sounds like way too much. I paid the £20 and my GP faxed MYA my medical documents around a week before I was due to have surgery. xxx

It’s actually the GP’s fault. Some don’t charge at all, some charge less.. From what I’ve seen on this site.
Mya probably could have said it more politely, but it’s business as usual, if they had to pay £60 for some and nothing for others, it’d be unfair to the rest of the girls…
It’s unfair really, I’d say so close to your surgery, pay it then change GP clinics..I wouldn’t cancel it out of principle, some things are more important, but that’s personal opinion..
I hope it gets sorted some way for you. Good luck! Xx

Can’t u request your medical notes for yourself and forward them to MYA. Google it on the nhs but I don’t think you have to give a reason why you want them. But I think they are allowed to charge, but £60 seems a bit expensive xx

Funny this, I’ve just received a letter in the post saying I need to pay my GP £25 for them sending the medical notes to MYA… They haven’t threatened to cancel my surgery though. Hope you get things sorted, it doesn’t seem fair that some charge and some don’t xx

Hey ladies, yeah its what my doctors surgery charge to release medical notes, I asked if I could have my medical notes myself then to forward onto MYA, but I would still have to pay £60 if i wanted them! I think it depends on what MYA request from the doctors as they may need more info about patients than others which is understandable .. But yeah it seems like that’s what all doctors do now, I think I got a bit angry cuz I didn’t even know doctors could do this! I think the wires have just got a bit crossed, obviously if I have to pay I will, but I think girls should know that this might be an extra cost beforehand, not to be scared that the surgery could be cancelled! And @Yana I understand its a business, but I still stick by my opinion that the four and half grand we pay for surgery should cover the potential cost of getting our medical notes, whether its needed for some girls or not. You wouldn’t pay to get your hair done and then be expected to pay for the products used after. But thanks for all your comments girls, my patient coordinators being really helpful and i’m sure it will get sorted 🙂 Xxxx

I had to pay £12 for a letter to say it was fine to have surgery. £60 is a lot I wonder if your GP thinks you are requesting a full set of medical records rather a letter just to say its ok? As that is around the price you would pay for a full set.

I think MYA do need a bit of information, but anyway i’m starting to feel a bit guilty now for kicking up a fuss! Lol just wanted to see if this was the same for most people which seems like it is, thanks for your comments guys 🙂 🙂 Xxx

Wow that seems a lot of money for medical notes hun!! And I agree that this should be covered in the 4k paid for the Op or we should at least be pre warned it may be an additional cost!! Hope you get it sorted xx

    Hi hun,

I can understand your frustration with this but in MYA’s terms and conditions it does state that whatever you pay for the procedure it doesn’t cover the cost of doctors notes, GP letters and any medical exams you need to have. Maybe its your doctors surgery charging so much, usually a GP letter/medical records are only around £20 – £25.

    Hope you sort it! xx
