    Hi girls,
I’m trying to book my BA (350cc dual plane). As a teacher I only get a week off for half term and my surgeon can only do a Tuesday that week so that would only give me 5 days to recover. Would that be enough?

Hey. I got mine done 2 weeks ago and I’m still in quite a lot of pain. Everyone’s recovery is very different and I know some people who have recovered quite quickly (mainly those who have had over the muscle implants) but i personally recommend taking longer than 5 days off (plus you have to sleep sitting up which has resulted in a lot of sleepless nights – hence why I’m writing this at 5am in the morning). x

Everyone recovers at different rates and you can’t guess whether you’ll be one of the lucky ones or still struggling a bit so soon after the op – it would be best booking the minimum 7 days off work as advised by surgeons because there’s no guarantee 5 days will be enough.

I’ve booked off 7 days and my manager has put me straight onto a long overtime shift on the 8th day post surgery so I’m also worried about how my recovery will be by that point because you never know! Best thing to do is bare in mind all the things you need to do in your job that would be difficult to do when healing. You won’t be allowed to exercise for 6 weeks or lift heavy things and even raising your arms (for example to write on whiteboards) can be really limited for a while. You don’t want to rush your recovery process, your healing is more important! x

Ooh Caitlin I didn’t even think of things like writing on the board. Thats definitely something to think about!
Good luck with yours! Couldn’t you get signed off work by the GP to avoid that shift?

I was told by MYA when I asked about getting a doctors note and they said you can’t get signed off work by your GP for elective cosmetic surgery but you could get written off sick if you see your GP after you’ve already taken the recommended days off and you’re still in too bad a state to go to work.
Luckily for me, my recovery seems to be going well enough that I might not need to call in sick next Monday but everyone heals differently and you can’t predict how well you’ll progress!

Is it possible for the extra 2 days to be covered by a supply/substitute teacher or do you absolutely need a GP note for that?
