Hey Ladies, I took Arnica everyday for 6 weeks before my BA (which was a very long time ago) and it really works. You can buy it from Boots and it comes in a small tube and the tablet is tiny which disolves on your tongue.

I really recommend taking this 4-6 wks before your op. xxx :D

I know Arnica is good! But apparently some surgeons say not to use it, as it can thin your blood?? I’m only going on what i’ve read though!!

Really? I was advised by my last surgeon to take it, but he told me to stop taking it a week before the op, i didn’t do me any harm Im definitely going to take it again for my next one.

I think as long as you stop taking anything that can thin your blood a week before your op you’re definitely safe. xx

I was told by a PC at Transform to take it, but my PC at MYA also said it thins your blood and therefore you shouldn’t take it.

    More bloody confusion! Lol

I saw the nurse on Monday and she told me to stop taking my vitamins a week before my op because the vitamin E thins your blood, so I guess we’ll be ok if we don’t take anything that can remotely thin our blood a week before the op lol!! xxx

Yep Arnica can cause bleeding (or prevent you from stopping bleeding rather!). I always use herbs, but having seen the effects of warfarin (a drug with similar but stronger effects) on my father, i would not risk thinning the blood before surgery. Also if you use it afterwards, it can prevent your scars from healing properly. Leave it till the 6 week mark, although you might be able to use at 4 weeks if your doctor gives the go ahead. You can mix arnica cream with shea butter which will help to reduce scarring as well :)

I was told to take it 3wks prior to op. not sure when to stop taking it though so might need to double check on that one. I think everyone gets told something different.
