Totally off subject but any girls had depo vera birth control jab?

Just wondering if anyone had had this as i was thinking of it but have never got on with any other forms of birth control like the pill, thanks

I’ve had it since the age of 15 as I used to have very painful periods! Never had a problem with it hun. My periods stopped with it, I’ve recently come off it. But it is different for everyone who goes on it xx

Holly, Does it help with painful periods then because i have sometimes had days off work in bed with pain?

It stopped my periods completely hun, but doesn’t do this for all women. The only thing to do would be to try it or you won’t know. I have a friend who went on it who just spotted now and again.

I had very mild period pains but nothing a paracetamol didn’t get rid of, and there were nothing compared to what I had before I went on it.

Only thing is, it’s takes time to ware off. I came off it in November as we decided to start a family – still haven’t caught pregnant(which is good because we’ve since decided it’s not the right time for us!) It can take a year for the effects to go.

You get the usual myths with it, like it makes you put on weight etc, I never had that. Or any side effects!

I used depo vera years ago and like holly I didnt put weight on or have any side effect,my periods just stopped,It was great,xxx

ive been on it for about 4 years now, absolutely love it, no periods, only have to remember to have it every few months and completely painless! xx

Sorry to be a downer but I have really heavy painful periods so decided to give it a go……….. I gained loads of weight and I was a professional ballet dancer so it wasn’t like I was lazing around and I also had a light period everyday for the entire time, I ended up having to go on the pill at the same time. It was a total disaster and I personally would never recommend it to anyone!! Xxx

I have my jab every 10 weeks instead of 12 to stop my periods. I used to have to take prescribed pain relief for my period pains ever since school, they were awful & now I haven’t had a period since just before I got preggers with my second son, love it!!! xx

i used to be on it, it was fab stopped my periods never had no pain with xx

I have the mirena coil it is fab not a period either

I’ve been on the injection for 7 years now, not had one period, im a bit scared to come off it now and go back to the painful periods etc. Ive not gained weight or had any problems with it. x

I was on it for 4 years befgore my huby had vasectomy. To start with 4 weeks of very mild spotting and after that no periods at all. Thinking of taking it again just to stop painful periods and pmt’s as getting fed up wiyth it. Have put about a stone i few years ans I am a very active person x

Thanks girls there are loads of varied opinions which is good might give it a go and see what it does for me, i could put up with most things but weight gain would be the worse for me as im quite short i feel massive even with a couple of pound gain! xx

I have been on it 4 yrs, I have put on some weight but that may not be related as it may just be down to getting older and changing metabolism! Had v painful periods which meant time off work and migraines every month when I took the pill, since the depo I’ve had no periods, and my boobs have gone up a size (they were 32A between 16 and 31 when I went on the injection so am assuming that is what’s responsible!). I would recommend it as I have tried everything else (coil v v painful for me and had no effecct on my periods at all), but everyone is different, my sister bled constantly so maybe try it for the first time and see how you go.

i had this my boobs got bigger x not on it now tho hense the boob job haha x periods stopped, the only reason i stopped this is because my doc wouldnt give it to me so i had to keep going to the STI Clinic at my local hospital to get it which made me feel as if everyone stared at me everytime i walked through the door so stopped takin it.. silly i know.. worth getting.

Hi, I went on the Depo injection after my first son and had it every 11 weeks. I had no problems while i was on it, if anything i felt better and i also thought it helped stabilise my weight.

The problems came when i decided to have baby no.2! I came off the injection and it took me 2 years to fall pregnant. It took me 1 go with my first son (same dad). I personally think it was the injection and my doctor did say it can usually take up to 1yr to fully get out your system. That was obviously 2 with me!

Lady C – did you have the surgery before you came off the deop or after? I am worried if I have surgery and then come off it that I will go down a size, the surgeon couldn’t answer either way….

im due for surgery 27th July x x and am now on mini pill x i dnt think it will reduce ur size hun… i lost weight due to a wanker x who told me i was fat…… dumped him then had 2kids with bf now, so boobs got smaller and smaller after breastfeeding x

im on the depo and had been for nine years its really good for ppl like me who forget to take the pill, im a size eight and it never effected my weight as some ppl say they gain off it.deffo recomend the depo x
