Is anyone on here a serious athlete who has had breast enlargement? I am a long distance triathlete, i ride, run and swim every day and i have 34A boobs and weigh 112lbs at 5’4″. I would like to get them increased to a small C cup but am very worried about post-op recovery and all the exercise/training i do. Anyone with similar levels of daily exercise who can share their experience with me or anyone able to just tell me how quickly they were running again post op. Thank you!

    Harriet.

You would need to have a chat with a surgeon honey,as every ones recovery is different, and for most of us the intense exercise that you have mentioned is a no no for weeks, consultations are free ask the expert, at least then you will know in terms of time, how long you will need to take in time out, to recover.Good luck xxx

Hi Harri! I run for a club, mainly 10ks and half marathons and also cycle a lot too. This is one of the main reasons I dillied and dallied for a while wondering if I should have my boobs done because I was so worried about a) not being able to run again to the same standard afterwards and b) having to stop training for a while and c) just not ‘looking’ like a runner anymore.

Well, anyway, I had them done 3 weeks ago from a 32A to 32D (but I look a C – I told him that a full C was the max I wanted to go to). I’m a bit bigger than you – I’m 5’6″ and weigh 120 lb. I had to have unders because I had very little tissue to cover the implant, so I guess you are going to be the same. I went for a post-op check up on Thursday and I’ve got the go ahead to start cardio again but absolutely no upper body for at least another 3 weeks. What I’ve done is just written off any real training for 6 weeks and I’ll ease back into it after New Year. In the meantime, lots of uphill walks on treadmill and stationary bike. Going to do a half marathon at the start of April so that will be my first training goal to work up to 5 months after my op. Tried a weedy little jog yesterday and it felt seriously weird (so stopped after a minute!!) but I am sure it just takes time to get used to your body being a little bit different.

I just decided in the end that a few months off training and probably 6 months off racing was a price I was willing to pay to get the figure I wanted, but that’s a decision only you can make because there is going to be pay-off in the short term… Good luck and def go and see a surgeon – they will give you the advice you need to make sure you know how the op is going to affect your lifestyle, and they will also bear this in mind when they decide the size of your implant so make them clear just how much exercise you do, at what level and how important it is to you etc. Post-op go easy on yourself though, everyone is different and you might be back to full training after 6 weeks, or it could take much longer so be patient. Hope this helps… xx

PS I am not a swimmer, but I am pretty sure you can’t swim for quite a while due to risk of infection from the water esp if you are doing open-water swimming.

PPS Didn’t tell anyone at the club I was having it done though, so good job that the sports bra totally squashes them back down to pre-op proportions!!

PPS They do look great – I am so pleased I did it!! 😆

    Check out http://www.justbreastimplants.com

This is a US site I looked at when I was doing my research – it’s got quite a few runners on there who have posted their experiences and how it felt for them getting back in to running. x

I’m pre-op and hoping to have my BA in early May next year. I play netball at a very competitive level and also do cardio and weights at the gym. I had a consultation last week and discussed my concerns with the PC regarding sport and exercise post op and how I would prefer overs if possible as I don’t want don’t want my chest muscle messed with and have a longer recovery.

My netball season starts again at the end of September so if I have my BA in May it’ll give me just over 4 months until I want to play competitively again. My PC advised that this should be plenty of time, although I will be discussing this with surgeons too. She did make a point of saying that everyone’s recovery is different and you should follow the advice of your nurse + surgeon and take it easy to start with. She said that if you go back to training hard too soon before the scar has formed you will increase your risk of encapsulation.

So what I would say is discuss your concerns with your surgeon so he can take account of your size, your implant size and activity and give you advice specific to you. Weigh up if you’re willing to stop training for a little while and stick to what they have told you to do post op xx

Hi Roch and Harri – just to warn you when you see your surgeon… as sporty and slim girls you might not have a choice between overs and unders. My surgeon said that he would NOT put overs on me (even though he said he would always do overs if he possibly can, and that’s what I had wanted too) because the implant would show ie the ‘stuck on’ look and when you moved, bent or did any kind of chest press there would be very obvious rippling but you guys might be lucky and have more tissue than I did. As well as encapsulation if you train too hard post op there is an increased risk of bleeding too. Eek! Keep us posted as to how you get on when you see your surgeon – he is the man/lady with all the answers… xx

Jodie Marsh – bad case of rippling with her overs, poor lass http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2069404/Jodie-Marsh-Bodybuilder-physique-leaves-misshapen-breast-implants.html

I find the overs/unders thing quite confusing as I’ve seen some pics of girls with pretty much no breast tissue and they’ve been able to have overs which haven’t turned out ‘stuck on’ at all. But I know the general rule is little breast tissue – unders.

After speaking to my PC about my concerns she has recommended a surgeon that prefers to do overs (as this is the least invasive method) and is apparently very good at achieving a natural look with overs where there isn’t much breast tissue. But obviously I will have to wait until I see him to find out what he suggests would be right for me. He is Paul Clarke from Transform, not heard of anyone else on here that has had him but the girls on here have mainly used MYA.

The PC showed me some implants filled to 95% that could end up with rippling if placed over the muscle so she said those are usually used for unders/partials. Then I had a feel of some implants filled to 100% and she said if you have those over the muscle you wouldn’t get rippling. Don’t know if anyone else has heard this?

Jodie Marsh’s don’t look too great do they, must be gutting to spend so much money and end up with problems, I know it’s the risk you take but I’m so scared of ending up with complications!

He sounds like the man for the job! I think each surgeon has their ‘thing’, don’t they? That makes sense about the implant not being filled to the max, that’s going to allow for it to be squeezed a bit without affecting the edges. The other thing about unders is it can be a long old road to them settling down and looking as they should, 3 weeks post op (which I know is early days, esp for unders) they are really high and tight – I think my muscles are struggling to give way so realistically I am thinking that it’s going to be next Summer before they are looking natural and soft. I was unbelievably bruised and very stiff and sore for 2 weeks so if you can have overs, go for it!

    Hi

Great info posted up. I will look up some of the links you’ve all mentioned as I’m serious about weight training, I also run and cycle and I want implants preferably over the muscle. There seems to be more info from the US – and quite a lot of women in Oxygen Magazine seem to have implants so I’m assuming it isn’t impossible and that rippling doesn’t necessarily have to be a problem (plus some of these are seriously muscular girls! – Who compete as figure athletes)
