Hey, I am due to have my BA soon and I was wondering if anyone could let me know do you have problems sleeping at night- is it really uncomfortable and for how long?? Also how long are you meant to stay resting for, when can you resume back to normal, light activity such as walking around etc?

    Thanks xxxx

Hi! i had my BA 2 weeks ago. I slept sitting up ( loads of pillows!) for the first week and then gradually lowered my sleeping position, now at 2 weeks post op im laying flat. To start off with id set my alarm during the night to keep dosing myself up with painkillers but only for the first 4 days ish?! Its uncomfortable and you’ll find your wake up with a numb bum!! Ha ha!! But its not unbearable at all and the end result is so worth it!! My right side was more uncomfortable than my left and when i moved my right arm it felt like my stitches were pulling so i had a pillow supporting it during the night. I have 2 young children and im pretty much back to normal now. Just dont rush into everything, it took me about 3 or four days to feel comfortable enough to have a walk and about a week to drive. Hope this helps! xx

To be honest the sleeping was one thing I found very hard!!!for first week I didn’t have anything close to a decent nights sleep due to being very upright and the aching, after that it gets easier and now at 9 weeks I can sleep on side and front :)
I was up walking and doing little bits from day one!I can’t stand sitting and doing nothing lol!

I had my BA 4 days ago, and i am lying flat already. I find the nights worse and my boyfriend has to help me up in the morning.
I find my self awake most the night looking as the sealing. But i am getting a little more sleep each nigh and just have a little dose in the day if i can. I take pain killers before getting up and just give them enough time to kick in before moving. Through the day isn’t so bad, probably because i’m moving around keeping loose.

Dreamgirl32 – Glad to hear you are sleeping on your front as that’s how i tend to lye to go to sleep.
Amyx – I could move around a few hours after coming round. i find now that it’s best as when i sit down for too long a get all stiff.
    Happy healing. x

Gosh…I am having my BA on the 11th of Aug. I am dreading the sleeping very much as I can never sleep on my back, let along sitting up! I wonder if we can be prescribed sleeping pills by the surgeon, or do we need to ask our GP? 😥

Is it really really important to sleep sitting upright? Im 2 days post op- I start off sitting up, but keep waking up lying flat without even realising I’ve done it! xx

Im not having it done with mya, im having it done with bmi healthcare who are mainly a health company not cosmetic surgery. I asked my surgeon about sleeping upright and he said theres no need, just sleep normal on your back just not on your front.

    hi hunny,

my nurse told me to sleep proped up for 7 days, when i got discharged from the hospital they said 48 hours.

i slept up right for 3 days i think, and it was starting to hurt, so i slept on my side.
