I arrived at Preston First Trust hospital on the 18th of January at 9am. I was shown to my room and got given my hospital gown, stockings and sexy paper knickers. I had my bloods taken, got weighed and asked all the medical questions.
I was told I was the biggest case of the day so Dr Traynor was leaving me till last so wouldn’t go down till about 3:30pm. I only needed to come early because I needed my bloods taken. I wasn’t bothered about waiting but OMG I was starving! I hadn’t eaten since dinner the night before
So I sat watching a load of daytime TV for hours until Dr Traynor came to draw on me. Then I sat and watched a bit more TV then the anesthetist came to see me and asked a few questions. A little while later the nurse came and said it was my turn, I’d been really calm the entire day but the walk down to theatre was terrifying, everything was suddenly so real!
The nurse and anesthetist were so lovely, made me feel a lot calmer. They put the cannula in my hand and the anesthetist told me he was going to give me a cocktail, haha. I remember feeling really drunk and then he said he was going to give me the stuff to put me to sleep now and the next thing I knew I was waking up! I was shaking quite a bit as a side effect from the GA and saying I was cold even though I wasn’t :S I vaugely remember complaining that my stomach was stinging a lot but by the time I had got back to my room it had stopped and so had the shaking.
The nurse told me I needed to drink some water but when I did I threw up straight away, urghhh. So I got put on a drip instead and was given an anti sickness medicine through it. I felt like I had a massive hangover and just kept drifting in and out of sleep. I did manage to eat some toast eventually though.
Getting out of bed for the first time to go to the toilet was the worst bit, 2 nurses helped me out of bed and carried my drains for me as I hobbled over doubled over to the en suite which suddenly seemed so far away! ;( I made it though and went to sleep once I got back in bed.
I woke up feeling a lot better, had some more tea and toast. The nurse took my drains out, which wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, phew! Dr Traynor came to see how I was doing and then I was told I was free to go.
I feel pretty much back to normal now, only walking slightly hunched over… Just can’t wait till I’m allowed to have a shower, almost been 2 weeks now and I’m desperate!!
Thanks for sharing honey, wishing you a speedy recovery, xxx
