I THINK you’re supposed to finish your anti-biotics before you drink or that’s what I was told but I finished mine a few days ago and want a little drink tonight xx

how many weeks of antibiotics do they give you? is it one or two? also i know that antibiotics stop the pill from working so does anyone know how long until its not affected?

I think as long as you’re not taking any meds where it says in the instructions you shouldn’t have alcohol then it’s ok to drink if you feel like it. I drank 2 weeks PO (probably would have done sooner but I was waiting until the weekend when my bf was off work). I didn’t take antibiotics after my op as I think I was given it while under GA, but I’ve had them for other things and usually they say use another method of contraception as well as the pill for 7 days after you’ve stopped taking the antibiotics. So I guess after 7 days the pill is back in your system as normal. x

also i know your supposed to stop taking the pill before your op? i finish my pack a week before, do you think thats enough time? i dont really wanna stop now half way through a pack :S

I didn’t get asked to stop taking my pill before the op so I didn’t, but I’d recently changed to a progesterone only pill from the combined pill so maybe it depends on the type you’re taking? If they’ve told you stop taking it X weeks before the op I would probably do that wherever in the pack I was, but maybe ask the nurse what’s best cos I wouldn’t have a clue whether when you started taking it again would you start a new pack, resume where you left off, wait til a natural period comes or what cos I’ve never stopped taking mine as long as I’ve been on it! x

me neither! and ive had surgery twice before! i wasnt asked to stop taking it but i mentioned it to the surgeon cos i had read on here about girls being told to stop two weeks before. and he said you might aswel because the antibiotics stop it working anyway and also to prevent Deep vein thrombosis! but thought id just finish my pack maybe a few days early so it will be just over a week before my op. xx

I didn’t even ask even though I’d seen it mentioned on here. I went with a different private hospital and they knew I was on it so if it was a problem they should have mentioned it, they’re the ones supposed to be giving me the medical advice, haha.

I think cos you’re quite mobile after the op and you can walk about and not bedridden it’s maybe down to personal choice or the opinion of the individual surgeon whether stopping it beforehand would reduce the risk much. Might also depend on other individual factors like if you smoke, other meds, conditions, etc. I didn’t really want to stop and mess up my hormones when the new pill had just settled properly but I would have done had I been advised. Sounds like yours isn’t fussed either way! x

nah i told him i was on the pill the first consultation and he didnt mention it at all! i had surgery on my foot before and wasnt very mobile for a few weeks and they didnt even ask me to stop! i dont wanna mess up my cycle/hormones etc either. the only reason i might stop a few days before is because i dont really wanna be ‘on’ on the day of my op

If your on progresterone pill it Dusnt increase risk of dvt so u can remain taking it however combined pill does and on my pre op list it says stop taking it 2 weeks prior to surgery because of the increased risk of dvt xx
