Washing???

Im so confused… Had my BA on Tuesday- My surgeon, Dr Aurakzai, told me to wait 3 days before washing, the nurse at the hospital said I could wash straight away aslong as I didn’t get mt dressings wet, and the nurse at the Mya clinic said not to wash at all until my pre op next Tueday. I’m desperate for a wash, I feel so minging!! Can anyone help? Would a shallow bath be ok aslong as I was careful not to get my boobs et, or is it jus not worth risking? Please help! xx

HI LAURA I HAD MY BA ON THE 9TH AUG AND WAS TOLD TO WAIT 48HRS COS THE HEAT CAN MAKE YOU BLEED.I HAD A SHALLOW BATH TODAYS LATER.HOPE THIS HELPS.X

i’m 14 weeks post op, and i was in the bath the morning after my op.

they advise you wait a few days, and only get a thigh deep bath, becuase its hard to get in and out of the bath without pushing up on your arms, and it can feel strained.

i managed just fine, could wash my hair over the bath with a shower head and everything after 4 days. . . . . hope this helps xx

Hi Laura, I showered my arms n legs day after op n just used wet wipes on boobs n under arms, didn’t wanna risk gettin wet. I felt miles better after it! I was told not to have proper shower until nurse takes my plasters off next week. I presume this is so it doesn’t get wet, but iv bin putting ice on boobs n they have got plasters wet anyway, does this mean I should stop icing them? X

I’ve been doing the same, still feel minging though! Just before I left the hospital the nurse mentioned the ice packs were making my skin all red and not to use them again, so not really sure about that one. I wouldn’t think that the water off the ice would do any harm though, othereise they would warn you? I have this terrible fear that the glue is going to burst open and everything is going to fall out!! xxx

Hi Laura, that made me laugh – hopefully we needn’t worry about them bursting out!! Iv given up on the ice packs, they jus made me cold! I had to have a shower yesterday, jus got my bf to help so I didn’t get plasters wet, it seemed to work ok. Plasters r starting to pull so iv pulled them back a bit today, tempted to take them off altogether but don’t wanna cause problems 4 myself! How u feeling now? Xx

Gillian and Leigh- thanks for your advice girls, I’ve been managing to have shallow baths now and its made me feel so much better!

Lisa- My plasters have started to pull a bit too, I’m just going to leave them til tomorrow for the nurse to take off, can’t wait! I’m starting to feel a lot better now. Friday was the worst- I think the adrenaline had worn off and the surgery took its toll on my body, I felt awful and sick all day, but since then I’ve felt a lot better, just taking each day as it comes. I’m just looking forward to when they feel like a part of me, everytime I bend down or sneeze I keep grabbing my boobs thinking they’re going to fall off or something! How you feeling? You pleased with everything? xxx

Hi Laura, yeah I’m pleased, I love them! I had a crappy day but jus slept, it was Thu or Fri all the days seem to roll into 1 when I’m off work! Still a bit tender under my right arm n inbetween boobs but think iv prob bin doin too much cos iv felt good. Can’t wait to have plasters off n c wot nurse says then I’m back in work Wed. Lookin 4ward to sum normality, I’m bored out of my mind!! When u back in work? I still can’t laugh either, I get a heartburn type pain in the right one. Wil r swelling ave gone now? I feel a lot softer than I did and move a lot more, I love them!! Xx

Dont know that the swelling has fully gone down as mine are still quite hard and high at the min, although definitely softer than last week. I’m quite tender inbetween too, and underneath both of them. Did Dr Aurakzai tell you too safety pin your sports bra? I was scared of stabbing myself so sewed my bra to pull them together, but starting to think I may have done it a little too tight and thats maybe why I’m so tender underneath as it was digging in- I’ve put a different bra on tonight and feel like I can actually breathe properly again- the relief! I know exactly what you mean about the heartburn thing, I’ve been getting it in both of mine, but mainly the right one. I was a little worried at first, but after looking on here I’ve seen quite a few other girls have got it so think its just normal. I was meant to be back at work tomorrow, but I’ve managed to get a another week off, which I’m really thankful for as although I do feel so much better than last week I just think I need a bit more time to rest- don’t want to push myself too much too soon. Means another week of boredom though, I haven’t done anything but comfort for a week ARGHHH!! I love them though, so happy with the results and really glad I went through with it xxx

I was soooo glad to get my plasters off yesterday! Everything seems to be good & all the swelling seems to have gone now, they just need to settle & soften now. They are still high & i can only feel half of them but they are beginning to feel like my own.

I was told to use pins yes, but i have been sewing them instead. I think i should be wearing a 32 back but have always worn 34, so i got 34 bras & when i stitch them i still feel ok but it pulls them together as well. I have also bought a couple of nike bras from sportsworld which push them together because its more like a bandeau with bra fastenings. I took one to the nurse yesterday & she said its fine to wear them. They are a bit tighter underneath but look better under clothes n push them together loads!

Well i am back in work today but so far all i have done is go through a million e-mails – its not really hardwork anyway so i am sure i will survive! The hardest bit is getting up early lol! I do think i could have done with more time off but it just wasn’t possible.

How did your appointment go yesterday & how are you feeling?

I have just found them on the website for you so i will put the link below, but they are called ‘Nike Strength Bra Top’ & they have got them in white, black & pain. They only seem to have certain sizes in certain colours though on the web, you might be best going into a shop?

To give you an idea on sizes – i usually wear a 34a (but think i’m actually 32!) & i have had 380unders but i can still get into the 32d nike bra without a problem. I think its because it doesn’t have cups as such. I do seem to be bursting out of the top but the nurse said that its fine because of the support it gives & how it pushes them together.

Hey Lisa, glad your appointment went well yesterday. Mine did too, such a relief getting the plasters off and being able to have a proper shower again. Slowly, but surely getting back to normal The nurse said everything was fine and as it should be, and that within a week I’ll have noticed them softening a lot. Yesterday was the first time I had been the car since last week and I stupidly chose a route with loads of speed bumps! I kept having to grab my boobs when I went over them, but I’m sure its actually helped cos when I got up this morning I could see they’d dropped a bit!! Good tip on the Nike bra, I’m definitely going to get one if it pushes your boobs together. My bra was digging in so much I had to go up a size, so now I feel like they aren’t as supported as they should be. Feeling almost back to normal now and totally rested, reckon I’ll be able to go back into work on Friday. Noooooooo! xxx

It was my first time driving yesterday but it wasn’t to bad. Haven’t been over any speed bumps yet, didn’t even think about it, I bet it killed! I can’t wait for my boobs to soften, they r miles better than they were already tho! I thought I wud b knackered after work 2day but wasn’t 2 bad. Lucky u back 2 work on Fri! U shd b fine by then hun, its gotta b better than bein bored! Wil write a bit about bras on other thread if u wanna check it out x

He’s absolutely fab! He is a really nice guy n seems to know his patients well n wot they want from his first meeting wit them! I was undecided about sizes n went back to c him n tried sum bigger ones n I didn’t like them at all, he jus looked at me n said knew u wudnt, lol! My boobs r great 4 me, so glad I had him do my ba. The nurse who did my dressing at mcr lifestyle said she loves his work, they r always good. Supposed to b good at minimising scars as well but can’t tel yet cos bot healed proper yet. I wud defo recommend him, n if i had another I wud use him again. Hope this helps! Good luck! Any questions jus ask. Xx
