Hi – No I’ve got 9 yr old, 4 yr old, 3 yr old and 6 months old my husbands mum is staying over Tuesday night as we leaving here 6am Wednesday morning but by time we get home Wednesday all the kids’ll be in bed (luckily my 6 month old is soooo good and he sleeps right through from 7pm) but she’ll make sure they’ll all be asleep before she goes and husband got week off so he can take older ones to school /nursery and look after the baby – sooo stressful though. My surgeon did say to me that I would be okay to hold him on my lap within day or 2 and lift him in and out of cot just no swinging him round my head LOL

Glad the manchester hospital sounds nice as that is where am going and am thinking may just come home in my pj’s with my pillow anyway !!! They phoned me on Thurs to confirm to be there at 7.30 – is it first come first served regarding the list dya think!?!?

I would say from what i gathered was if you want to stay and the nurses and docs think u can go then u may have to pay but if its under the docs instructions for u to stay then u dont pay

I really wanted to go home but they didnt want me too :(

i just wanted my own bed and to be with my other half

No fake tan or make up it too keep an eye on ur skin colour and make sure u have full circulation in the operation

Alot is just to cover them if anything was to happen, I kept my socks on when i went donw ;)

Eearly moring was a killer for me and the last time i ate was the nigth before and i had my operation at 1pm the next day and i took a bad turn with the anesthetic but i think it was cos i had not eaten or drank for over 12 hours :(

i had to stay as a night case in the end as i was suppose to be a day case :(

    Good luck girls

    xx

lol the surgical stockings are to prevent blood clotting x

    Menu

toothpaste, toothbrush, something to read maybe… u will have a tv, but not that many channels, a zip up top as you wont be able to lift ur arms over ur head, clean pants, socks, slippers, flannel, soap, your phone and maybe your phone charger, pj bottoms, and a sports bra x

    Menu

im gonna take it anyway just incase x

Does anyone know why you have to wear paper knickers ?!?! – that mixed with surgical stockings, the no fake tan rule and no make-up – and check in time that early in morning -not a good look – I will look shocking LOL xxx

    Menu

No its definitely not first come first served cos when I got to the reception there was another girl there who had the same ”check in” time as me and after talking to her on here she said she only went down at 4 which was 2 hours after me!

Naomi- I took my dressing gown but I never ended up wearing it walking down to theatre… The gowns are quite good and fasten really well at the back so you cant see the lovely paper knickers they get you to wear under them!! lol

    Menu

i think u need ur dressing gown to go down to theatre over ur gown!!!!!

    Menu

it would be really helpful if some of u girls could help me i have packed my bag for tuesday!!!
but not really sure if i have got everything that im going to need!!
Im so dozy i know i will forget something lol

Hi Kate, Your in your own private room with a shower and toilet etc.. I was in my room for about 3quarters of an hour I think before the nurse came to see me and told me how many where before me.. Although when I asked what time roughly she wouldn’t say!
Like I said before I went down for my op at 2 and was back in my room at about 4. I was quite a long time in recovery cos I couldnt stop shaking, it was really weird.. Nothing to be concerned about it as I’ve heard other people say it happened to them. I was told I could go home at 9. Although I couldn’t be arsed getting dressed as it was so nice and warm in the room and your still a bit knocked out with the morphine!
I’ve got a 2 year old little girl and was really worried about having to pick her up but the day after I lifted her into her cot (not recommended though) as it did hurt later on that night!

Are the children sleeping over at their nans that night? xx

All the mags come out on a Tuesday so I’ll be able to take them all with me to read LOL x

ah thanks leanne – my admin time is 7.30 so will leave home about 6 try and get there bit early to calm my nerves !! I got myself a V pillow last week so I’ll definitely be taking that in the car with me then – I live on a new build estate and is covered in speed bumps – so not looking forward to that so good idea !! And I will give the potato a miss lol – if you think of anything else let me know hun – can I ask when you were waiting around are you on a ward or in a room? and also when do you find out how far down the list you are I have seen on another forum people know days before hand but I’ve never heard of that before !!! am just panicking as got 4 kids eldest 9 youngest 6 months – am sure they’ll be fine with their nan i’ll just have to relax ha ha xxx

    Menu

My admission time was 11 and I went down to theatre at 2. I was 4th on the list and there was 3 more behind me I was told so its more than likely you’ll be waiting around.. Plus an hour seems like 3!!! It really does drag!

Another good tip is to take your pillow with you for the way home. So the seatbelt doesnt rub against you and to absorb some of the impact from the bumps in the round!! Tiny ones feel like big pot holes!!! I didnt have no pain what so ever in the hospital just a bit stiff but once I got home after the drive I was aching like mad!!

Oh and I know this might sound stupid but only order a sandwich for your food… The jacket potatoes sound tempting but you cant sit upright to eat them!! I had to swap meals with my friend as it was too uncomfortable to eat it (it looked so nice as well!!))

    xx

    Menu

Leanne – Good idea – although hoping won’t be waiting round long enough to do crosswords!

Naomi – did think about taking dressing gown LOL but as daycase realised maybe not!! Just got my Juicy tracky to come home in and my comfy uggs failing that I’ll just stay in me jarmies !!! Here’s where I’ll get kept in for some reason now an I’ll be gutted I left my dressing gown at home Lmao xxx

    Menu

I ended up forgetting my slippers and I looked like a right weirdo walking down to theatre in the very flattering gown and my ugg boots!!!
A good tip though…. take magazines with crosswords in as that keeps your mind occupied on something else other than the op!! I tried to watch tv and tried to read mags but couldnt concentrate!! they defo helped my nerves and I wasnt nervous at all leading up to it… Only once the nurse came to see me and then it sunk in what was going to happen and I had started to panic… All worth it though and would definitly do it again (hopefully wont have to though)!

Good luck to you both though!!! xx

    Menu

ooo have ya got ya dressing gown as well??
