Hey girls at my 1 week check up with the nurse she removed my dressings and replaced them with steri strips and said I could shower which I have been doing. She said after a week to remove the steri strips, which is on Thursday. She said just to leave them bare after this; but Im frightened to?! Had a sneeky look at my scars and although they are neat (thankyou Mr T) they are very red and very bumpy and I don’t fancy just going bare back!!! Plus I have 3 different sports bra all of which dig in right where my incisions are so I don’t think it’s a good idea. What did you girls do? Thankyou xx
I was also scared but mine are fine. I hairdryer my scars with the cool settling on the hair dryer to keep them cool preventing germs etc. Especially when getting out the bath. Make sure there dry. Ul be fine. But if your worried try putting something over the bra or something to stop it rubbing in?? xx
hiya tracy i have the same problem my nurse told me to take them off yesterday which i did after my first shower, but i was afraid to put a sports bra on as it rubs the scar and irritates them so im braless at the mo lol xx
Thanks girls. Are you able to buy steri strips does anyone know? xx
How are you Adele? x
Im not bad hun thanks, finally starting to feel slightly normal again lol. Im not sure if we could put steri strips on scars now as they have to heal and air get to them i suppose. its just the bra rubbing on them im worried about and its still a bit sore xx
I’ve just bought some steri strips off ebay – £2.75 for pack of 10. I think I’ll use them for a while longer x
Sorry Del, we crossed. Think I might just use them now and again as don’t want them rubbing on my bra too much – parts of mine don’t look as tho they’re knitted together properly yet. Glad you are feeling a bit better
xx
are we allowed to carry on putting them on then did your nurse say it was ok. ive still got stiches coming out of mine as they are dis solvable ones but i know they wont dissolve they are irritating me i just want to pull them out lol xx
No, she didnt say Im just worried myself about leaving them bare and having my bra irritating them. Hopefully some of the post op girls will come along soon and tell us what they did xx

hi girls, im not in a position to offer post op advice, as mine isnt til 14 Dec, woo hoo! Anyway, i was looking on ebay last night for sports bras, and i seen a shock absorber sports bra tank top. im going to order one, as im worried about the bra rubbing on the scars to. However, im not sure if on the inside of the vest, it has like a bra built in, in which case it will still rub?!? it does say it has an integral bra, with defined back and cup sizes. it doesnt say anything bout elastic under the bust but maybe u guys can check it out? i dont no if this helps at all?? and i hope u guys heal nicely and enjoy your boobs!
hey girls…I too was a wimp…but after 12 days I left everything off the incisions..u will be fine honestly..u cud always use a little but of cotton wool just under ur bra where it rubs..but u really are better trying to let them breathe xxxx be brave u can do it x
Haha Tracy bareback!!! That made me laugh! My nurse gave me loads of dressings wen I went at 5 days. Just put something between your bra & stitches so it doesn’t rub but don’t worry bout showering. Just let water run off your boobs, don’t use any soap or anything. U can buy steris from chemists but just leave them off now, air will help towards healing xxx
Hiya ladies, im 4 and half weeks PO and remember this feeling well. My nurse put more strips on me after my 10 day PO appointment and said i could shower in a few days.. i left them on longer than she said before i took them off in the shower about 5 days later, so had dressings on for about 2 weeks in total. (from op date). I was worried they would rub but they didnt… I think its important to get fresh air to them instead of keeping them covered, but thats just my opinion. if your scared they havent healed properly once you have seen your nurse and are removing them, just give your nurse a call and she will advise you. But if they are healed, take them off and shower as normal, just using a soft body wash (i was told baby wash) and dont rub anything into the scars, just rub into your chest and allow the water and soap to fall over your scars.
Im 4 weeks PO now and using my usual soap, but still not rubbing soap into scars etc… i was also advised not to use oil or cream until after my 6 week check.
Hope this helps xxxxx
