Was told by my surgeon I’ll need MRSA swabs, as I work in hospitals. Will these be done at my pre op? Or now?
I’m guessing, the sooner the better, because if I show posotive for MRSA, it’s a course of meds and then usually you have to show negative for it, for three weeks before they will operate. My op is only 5 weeks away!
Have asked my PC but no reply.

Hi Hun, everyone has this done normally on your pre op, very simple just like thre large cotton buds and just rub them on ur skiing in thre areas and then they send them off.
When is ur pre op? Most girls come back negative so try not to worry, even girls who work in hospitals come bk negative
Xx
Yeah I don’t think I’ll test posotive but you never know! And If I do then I don’t want a risk of my op being postponed. Thing is I work on wards where unfortunately, there have been cases of MRSA.
I have no idea when my pre op is other than January, my op is the 21st.
xx
I would probably get in contact with your pc and arrange it as like u say u don’t want to risk having ur op moved back!
I had my pre op 6 weeks before xx
Just had message from my PC – she must have been busy when I text her, the nurse is going to ring me to do it early x
My op is monday got my mrsa swab today sent it back today got time of op y.day all set whoop whoop x x
I too work on the wards as a student nurse and my swabs came back positive totally gutted as my op was meant to be the 22nd of this month.. So annoyed because I wont have time to get rid of it now in time for my op. So I had to rebook for April
I’m just wondering even if i get rid of it surely my husband will have it and our baby?? so wont i just be getting rid of it then getting it again?!? SO annoying
xx
Aw gutted hun
I’m having my pre op next week now, thing is they want you to go back and have to test negative for three consecutive weeks before they do it
Yeah I guess they would hun. Take them both to your GP and explain, he can give them treatment then and if you all do your treatment at the same time you should all be clear then without risk of re infecting – but in saying that, its just as easy for you to pick it back up on a ward!

yeah exactly that’s what I’m worried about as I have a placement in Feb lasting to end of march.. I am so careful with hand washing etc. Now i’m going to be soooo paranoid I wont want to touch any patients haha! so easy to spread though isnt it
ah well
Yeah will have to go along to GP next week and get a prescription. WHY do I want to be a Nurse?! haha fingers crossed for you hun xxx
Lol!! Yeah, it is so easy to pick up, even with precautions with barrier nursing etc… Thanks hun, you too! xx
