Hey finally plucked up the courage to book my week off, just said I needed a weeks holiday! thing is I work for an oil company (basically there’s 100 office staff and only 3 females) Starting to really freak out that everyone’s going to notice as soon as I come back . . I work in a large opened planned office and have to walk to the very end to get to my desk! absolutley cringing at the thought of it!

Just start wearing super padded bras to work now to make it a little less noticeable, then after your op wear loose clothes at first and ease into it from there. I wore a padded gel bra with fillets in it, with another padded bra in a bigger back and cup size over it!! I had a Mission impossible style operation going on and it worked! xx

    @ Khanni . . your nuts u are lol x

To everyone else it’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one sitting here having these thoughts . . .seems the easiest part is booking it . .it’s telling everyone else thats the hardest! Stil aint told the parents and really dont think i’m gonna until afterwards cos not wanting the stress or being talked out of it! Finding it a bit daunting going for GA without me mam knowing though!

I was more worried about telling people at work than my parents (who turned out to be surprisingly supportive). The people at work can often look down on you like you’re a stupid child for things like this. But I needed to tell them so I could get the time off. I work for a small company (only 6 of us) so decided to do it when we were all sat together and all I said was…

As you know, I’ve requested some time off and it’s not to go away on holiday. It’s because I haven’t been blessed like Dolly Parton has and I’ve finally decided to do something about it. I need the time off to recover.

They all burst out laughing and I think it was the easiest way to tell them and felt so relieved.

In regards to holiday of ur work is anything

Like moment won’t get paid for the 1st 3 days as u can

Self certificate, sooo luckily I’m getting my ba on the 22nd April

So there’s all the bank holidays bear so theoretically only have

To book off 3 days but as its on the Friday I’m going to ask for my sick note

From the 22nd for 2 weeks and Hy the time the 3days crop up I’ll be getting paid

So just a lil pointer for u guys xxx

I’d be very careful taking it off as sick. It’s self inflicted, pre-meditated cosmetic surgery. Some employers may not be happy with you taking it as sick leave. Whilst they may not be able to sack you for it, it may well be frowned upon. I guess everyone knows their own employers. Just play it safe. x

Lisa, as a HR Manager for a large orgainasion i would argue your comments,

Most operations are not neccessary, people choice to have them out of choice, what about men who have vasectomies?

i just think as long as u go to doctors and get a doctors note they cant say naff all! an operation is an operation they cant say just cause ive chosen to do it i should be at work cause i certainly wont be going in just to answer a phone lol x

    Menu

I think if they knew what the operation was for then they may argue it not being taken as holiday. However, if you have a sick note then they can not argue this and also do not have the rights to know what the operation is for.

Gem, I am also an HR Manager. Like I say, every organisation is different and I have worked for small and large organisations and I know the conversations I’ve heard over the years, those that go on behind the scenes.

I called a meeting with my manager yesterday to tell her that i was planning to have a boob job in my time off in april. she was really understanding but said it will have to come out of my holidays because its cosmetic surgery its your own choice to have it done. Im in the same position though in working in an open planned office with 600 people im worried about them all noticing, so what ive started to do it wear bigger bras and putting chicken fillets etc in there so i look about a c already! xx

i put a holiday request form in for a week and as it fell just 2 days after my boss getting back from her holiday she asked if i was going away (and because i already had 2 weeks booked in april)with a suspicious look on her face!! i was gonna lie and say i was, but i couldnt and just said “ive booked a boob job”. she laughed out loud and then realised i was being serious, then started with the “why you dont need a boob job, why would you have GA when you dont have too”!! Anyway she eventually said “well its up to you but what if things go wrong and you need more time off?, youll waste all your holidays!” if i do end up needing more than a week off i will have to take it as unpaid.

its not an operation for an illness or somthing that has to be done or youll get even more poorly and i think any doctor who issues a sick note just for recovery is wrong…if there is complications and you become ill from surgery then fair enough but i think you should use your holidays!

also i work in an office with 5 women and 20+ men, only the 2 girls and 1 man know about the op as the other men are all a bit sexist in a funny way!! so i am dreading going in and being the butt of all their jokes!!

What if someone is clinically depressed because of their breast or like me having a breast enlargement beacuse i had an eating disorder a few years ago and lost a great deal of weight which affected my boobs.

Anyway ill be working from home during my recovery.
