    Hi girls,
I have my op on the 15th December but was going to go stay with the in-laws 2 weeks after that on the 29th December for a few days over new years. It’s a half an hour flight and my PC said I should be ok to travel then with it being a short flight but I’m just wondering what condition people were in 2 week post op pain wise and with the sleeping sat up situation?

Haven’t booked flights yet just in case but need to book them ASAP if I’m going which I haven’t decided yet! Any help appreciated! X

I’m 9days post op and I reckon I could get on a short flight at the 2 week mark (I’ve had unders just FYI). I still feel pretty sensitive but I’ve been in cars etc and the seatbelt hasn’t been an issue so far with a big jumper on. Minor things to consider I suppose are I still can’t lift much at all. Struggled with literally 1 tiny bag of shopping and some loo rolls today, so maybe have your husband carry all the bags haha! But honestly I’d say I could do a little flight next week. X

@gmb1309 thank you so much! What about the sleeping sat up situation? I’m going to sleep in the spare room after the op for a week so I have more room and don’t get woken up by OH or other way around I just think it’ll be easier, will I still have to sleep sat up at 2 weeks? Ill be going after my 2 week check up just in case, but I also don’t really want my oh family to know I’ve had a BA so I don’t want it to be obvious haha! It’s the sleeping situation and tiredness I’m thinking about more than anything! X

Oh ok. Well I’m not gonna lie I’m exhausted. But after 2 weeks flat on your back is what they say. You might need to steal a few pillows off the sofa to prop around you to prevent you rolling onto your side. I would definitely sleep in the other room first few nights while your at home. I’ve been on the sofa a lot just because I’ve found it easier to be upright, but finally got a good nights sleep in the spare bed. From reading posts I think I’ve been on the worse end of the pain scale in a way so if I’m feeling ok day 9 I would say most people would. You always hear of people up and about day 3/4 and I was mostly sobbing those days through aches and tiredness. Honestly I really think after that two week check up you’ll be fine and you’ll have caught up on sleep enough to be ok. I’m certain I’ll sleep fine tonight and Wednesday marks my 2 weeks. Plenty of time.

@gmb1309 thank you so much! You’ve made up my mind for me haha! I was thinking as well after 2 weeks stuck at home slobbing about I’ll be dying to get out and away! Just didn’t want to book anything in case I was still in bits haha! Glad you’re recovering okay now! X

    Hi hun,
I’m cabin crew, I didn’t go back to work for short haul until the 4 weeks as my nurse said shouldn’t fly until the 4 week mark so just make sure you ask the surgeon and nurse this when you see them. As far as I know it’s 4 weeks for short haul and 6 weeks for long haul. Xx

@stephcp thank you! I thought 4 weeks too but my PC said with it only being half an hour 2 weeks should be fine? I know it’s to protect against developing DVT isn’t it? I’ll ask the nurse on Wednesday at my pre op though, I have 4 weeks recovery time before I go back to uni it’s just a couple of days of that I was hoping to be away. Xx

Hi I had a 3 hour car journey at 2 and a half weeks as we went for a few nights away. I was fine just got a little stiff at times but still managed to walk around a city each day! As someone else has said, get someone to carry your bags and you should be fine for a half an hour flight xxx

I got my op done abroad so flew home 7 days after my surgery – had no problems from flying, didn’t feel any worse either. I was off my pain killers on day 5. I would say to fly short haul 2 weeks PO you will be fine!! Enjoy 🙂 xxxx

Hi any cabin crew here….I have 3 weeks leave booked in feb, so hoping to have my surgery then. I’m short haul and I’ve heard you need to wait 4 weeks before flying again. Can I get time off for having the surgery (meaning) would they give me a weeks leave extra as I’ve had an operation?
    Thanks Nicky.

I’ve also got a holiday booked for a few days (only 45 minutes flight) that I thought i was going to have to cancel due to my op being postponed, which means I’d be flying at 4 and a half weeks instead of 7. Do you think I’d be ok to fly at this time? I really don’t want to cancel xx
