Answer from my female boss today. Thought and opinions girls? I’m really pissed off.
I booked all last week out of my own holidays and now she wants me to book more off which I haven’t got and take them out of the week I’ve booked off for my girl’s holiday in August – in other words she wants me back in work when I’m not fully recovered. Another colleague who I work with has been off 6 weeks now and still off work after a ‘repaired prolapse’ not even the full isterectomy like she planned cos she’s too fat to go under anaesthetic. This woman is off every year without fail on the sick and milks it all the way. So why should someone genuinely unfit for work be spoken to like that??
NOT HAPPY !!!
get doctor to sign u off, go to them and say u are unfit to work, ur boss cant argue with an official sick note xx
That is really shitty! You should go to your docs and get signed off for another week or something, if you can’t physically work then you can’t work, if you have a doctors note then they defo can’t say anything! I hate people that take the system for all its worth and nothing gets said to them yet when someone who has a really good reason gets screwed! Grrrr what is wrong with people!
Sorry for ranting lol got a lot a rage today!
Hopefully it will get sorted for you hun and you can recover fully and be back to normal! xx
It’s a crappy system,i just booked holiday so i didnt have the hassle xx
It’s an awkward one. Although you’re not well enough to work after the operation, the operation is elective and not medically necessary so I don’t think you can really take it as sick leave. My other half is a HR consultant so I’m pretty sure he’d have had something to say about it if I was entitled to sick days, unless he was just being dim. I just had to use annual leave.
Some companies may well let you take it off sick, but I guess technically they don’t have to x x
I did ring my HR department hun and they said the same, they said it’s up to my line manager now if she wants to pay me the sick leave or not. Hope she isn’t awkward about it cos its not coming out of her pocket! I can’t afford to lose a week’s pay! Aww well x x
i booked a weeks hol,and went to my gp and said i didnt feel comfortable going back to work with stitches in,he signed me off with, post operate condition,he said if they asked i could say i didnt want to push the healing and get an infection my gp was great.no one said a word they can get in to big trouble if they bully you when you are officially off sick.you have booked time off but cant anticipate what will happen,so just see your gp when your weeks leave is up hun,xxx
just get signed off babe thats exactly what i have done, i didnt even tell the doctor what i was having, i just said a private operation and that id be unfit to work for 2 weeks, once the doctor does that they cant say a thing to you. My doctors note literally just says ‘operation’ and now my employee cant say a word xx
i went back to work after 1 week and was fine. I didnt drive though.
You cant usually take it as sick leave because its an optional procedure, if you really need to take off that extra week why not take it unpaid with the chance you may go back in if you feel better?
I hope my opinion doesn’t offend, but I don’t think we can complain about having to use annual leave for elective surgery.
There are people on the sick who would far rather be taking holidays or even be in work. Please try to remember how fortunate we are to have our health!
I do agree whilst we are not ‘sick’ i do think we should be allowed it as sick. I work hard and never take time off, therefore if i need two weeks to recover than i expect my employer to be sympathetic. My manager went sick for four months last year after having a gastric band fitted, yet is tutting at me for having a BA with a doctors note. Although i guess its each to their own right? if you feel bad taking it as sick opt for the holiday option, if you feel you deserve some time off then go for the doctors note
I guess i feel a little different as my BA was not really to get big boobs, but because i never developed any breast tissue which was affecting my confidence massively. therefore i probably feel a bit hard done by lol
But yes our boobs maybe all different shapes and sizes yet at least we are healthy!
^^ agree Chloe, I didn’t have a boob job for mahoosive boobies and be a page 3 girl I did it because I was fed up and unhappy with my A cup breasts. Whether it was elective surgery or not, NHS or not I had it done for my own self-esteem. I undertand your point of view though Claire
I just never take time off work for anythin hense why I booked annual leave in the first place x x
I also think taking the time off depends on the type of work we do,until my BA,I had worked for the company for 6 years, not one day off sick,it depends on the healing process too, everyone’s body reacts differently, you may not need the extra week.I did take a week sick because I didn’t want to go back to work with the stitches in,I was worried I would get an infection. All you can do is see how it goes, xxx
I initially took 3 weeks unpaid leave….i allowed myself plenty of time for recovery but hadn’t prepared myself for the post op blues, i went back to work and had a complete meltdown and the doctors then signed me off for 2 weeks….i had hoped not to take any time as sick and had asked for another 2 weeks unpaid but work wouldn’t let me….i guess each workplace is different xx
dont want this to sound horrible but of course you cant get sick leave when u have a boob job its same in every job, ur not sick its something youve done to yourself intentionally. its just a shame u dont have the extra days to take off as a hol, if your desperate ull have to try and get a sick note, but ull find that one day u feel like crap but u can wake up the next day and feel completely fine to go back to work xx
Hi hun,
I get where your coming from mine was taken out of my holidays too! But I have to admit my manager did ask if it was ‘medical’ to be taken as sick leave which I don’t really think it is. I work at a doctors so about the sick notes you can be off work for up to a week without a sicknote from the doctor & just fill in a self sick note form (just pick up from your gp). If its longer thhen a week a doctor can do you a sick note. Your other option is to get your doctor to do a standard letter for you explaining the circumstances but doctors to charge for that!
Hope this helps! X
