Have to have the cast on for 12 days, I wasn’t aware of that, I thought it was a week. That’s the norm for Dr. Gonschior’s patients. I’d rather keep it on than take it off too early, so don’t mind too much. Still don’t have a great idea of what it looks like, the cast is over my entire nose so won’t know until Tuesday, plus it’s swollen so even when it’s off, it will change over the next few months, the tip is pretty swollen! This time next week girls, the worst will be over with and you’ll be resting with your feet up! That’s what I was doing this time last week. Great you’ll both be in the same time! Let me know how you both get on won’t you xx
Yeah i see what you mean about having the cast on a bit longer, seems more appropriate. How are you feeling now bumble281? With 5 days to go I am absolutely petrified, how painful actually is it? N How do you feel when you wake up? xx
Oh, ok, I think I have assumed that when I have my stitches taken out on the 23rd, I would have my cast off too. I like the idea of keeping it on for as long as possible, at least my nose is well protected then.
I think I will ring too, if my op is quite late in the day, may as well drive down on the day. Do you know what time you have to go into the hospital?
The waiting game must be killing you bubble281. At least you get to see what is beneath your cast next week though, how exciting.
I know, I cant wait till this time next week. Its been so comforting to speak with you, as we have had the opportunity to speak before and after your op, and you seem so pleased with the results so far
xx
I was told i would have to have the cast on till the 28th and no one has mentioned anything about stitches…so I’m not sure whats gonna happen, although I am having closed so I dont know if the same applies.
I was told to get there just before 1pm and my op would be performed between 1 and 2pm. Do you know when we will be discharged the next day? On the highgate hospital website it says 9am, but not sure if that applies to mya patients.
I totally agree with you with regards to bumble281 and everyone else who has provided us with such lovely and reassuring comments. It would be so much more difficult with out your help and advice xx
I had my cast on for 2 weeks as the 12th day landed on a weekend!!! It just makes it heel better so i didn’t mind. I slept upright for about a month as i noticed if i didnt my top lip was so swollen in the morning!!!
I now sleep with 2 pillows as i’m used to the height i only used to sleep with 1!
hmariez, you only have the stitches out after a week if you have open surgery, but i think you’re having closed like me so no need to worry you’ll just have the cast on for 12 days then get it removed which is a very weird sensation.
Prettyhatemachine, as soon as i had my surgery i could see a difference straight away even with the cast on! There was no bump and a lovely little curve exactly what i asked for so as soon as i saw that i knew it was all fine.
Good luck girlies xxx
I can honestly say I have felt no pain. The only thing that feels a little uncomfortable is the needle in your hand from the anaesthetic and drip and also a sort throat from the tube, but it goes after a couple of days. I felt quite spaced out when I came round after the op, couldn’t focus straight away, but within an hour felt okay (I’ve felt worse with a hangover!). There’s someone waiting with you when you come round to make sure you’re okay and they’ll also wheel you up to your room. A nurse will check on you regularly and take your blood pressure etc. I was discharged the next day around 9a.m, left the hospital by 10a.m. All very easy in all, just try to relax as much as possible beforehand.
Glad to be of help. Not much on the forum for rhinoplasty so good we’ve got our little chain! Wishing you both the best of luck, you’ll be fine and this time next week you’ll be on the road to recovery xx
Thank you bumble
I think one of the things i’m most scared about is waking up in agonising pain. Also i’ve heard a lot regarding heavy bleeding too, that will freak me out too, have u experienced a heavy amount of bleeding? Also people have mentioned throwing up blood ahh i’m so squemish xx
I only sleep with one pillow, and I like it to be flat, so I am going to have to try get used to the height too lol.
Thank you so much guys
2 more days to go…
When will you be getting your cast off Bumble281?
The nurse told me (and she had her nose done a couple of years ago) that rhinoplasty isn’t really painful as such, just very uncomfortable.
xx
Yeah it really isn’t painful which is surprising! Get yourselves a V shape pillow that was great for me and comfortable!
hmariez…i did not throw up blood. The only time it was heavy was the day i had it done then a little bit the next morning but othere than that it was fine. Just dont do too much or bend over as that could make it bleed more xx
I will get one of those pillows tomorrow
thanks for the advice
Also bought some of that dry shampoo, apparently washes your hair without rinsing it, dunno what it will be like though.
I think i’m more scared about the pain than the results lol xx
Funnily, my Mum was about to throw a v shape pillow out yesterday, so quickly swiped it lol, so thank you for that piece of advise.
I use dry shampoo, its quite good, i always spray too close to my hair though, and end up looking grey lol, so just be careful of that, haha
xx
You girls are probably out of surgery now! Exciting! I’ve had no bleeding since the op. Dry shampoo has been my best friend and a V shaped pillow has helped wonders.
Cast is off. Was a bit freaked out at first, not in a bad way, it was a weird feeling looking at my new nose. But it’s amazing, my side profile is SO much better, but I still look like me which is what I wanted. Can’t wait for the swelling and bruising to go down now. Just have to be very careful with it now.
Hope your ops went well (I’m sure they did). Well done girls xx
Hey
Well i must say, i am not looking my best as of now lol, i’m so swollen, i look like a balloon, and I’m really bruised, but i know all this is to be expected though. I have been bleeding quite a bit since surgery, but again i know that this is to be expected for some people. Dr Gonschior seemed really pleased with the results, told me my nose looked great in the recovery room, so that was nice to hear. Now, i just hope that my new nose suits my face, time will tell… I do trust that Dr Gonschior is an amazing surgeon, so… I have always been so paranoid when anyone sees me in profile, including my Mum, and i keep going in panic mode when someone talks to me from the side, im forgetting that, that is no longer a problem, its weird.
Its lovely to hear you’re pleased, I assume most people must have a mini freak out when they first see their nose, but at least you’re happy and loving it, yey
Hi girls, its so intresting reading all your storys about your noses. Id really lol mine done its been broken 3 times an just looks big on a side profile. Can i ask how they do it an also what happens at the consultation ect. Im having my ba in nov but plan to have my nose done next year. Just so scared to book incase its goes wrong u cant cover up ur face
Well done Prettyhatemachine, you did it! First week is always the worst and it will be get better. We just have to be patient. I still have some bruising, back to work tomorrow so got some explaining to do! Was it as bad as you thought it would be?
Hi Polly, best thing to do is book a consultation and see what they say. Everyone’s different and any questions you have will be answered by a PC and the surgeon. I think with rhinoplasty that everyone has the same issue that you’ll be left disfigured, but the surgeons have done hundreds of ops and the likelyhood of that happening are very very rare. Dr. G is a facial surgeon, so that’s his expertise. You have to find a surgeon you’re comfortable with and be very clear in why you want the procedure and what you want the end result to be x
All the bruising and swelling will go down soon and will all be worth it
. Really pleased everything went will prettyhatemachine. Totally understand where your coming from with regards to side profile..no need to worry anymore
Unfortuantely my op had to be post-poned as I had a sty on my eye, went down to Highgate and was gettin ready to go into theatre and Mr G came to speak to me and said it would be too risky to operate as the sty was too close to my nose…so i still have my horrible nose
Should be getting my new op date on Monday, hopefully I won’t have to wait too long. But at least this proves that Dr G, will not take any risks!
Pleased your liking your nose bumble281
I’m sooo jealous of u all lol. I should be all bruised too lol. xx
PollyDolly, I think everyone has that initial worry of it going wrong, thats why you should be comfortable with your surgeon and everything before going ahead. I’ve seen a number of surgeons and it just felt so right with Dr G and even tho i haven’t had it done yet, theres enough evidence to prove what a good surgeon he is. Bumble has made some very gd points above xx
So sorry to hear that, but better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully you’ll have your new op date sooner rather than later. xx
Thanks girls. Im going to be doing lots of research. On meeting Dr.G did you girls take pics in with you? Also do any of your girls have any before and after pics or pics of swelling ect. xxx
I took some pictures with me. It’s worth doing if you have an idea of what you want. I don’t have any pictures on here of before and after, might post in a couple of months when the swelling has gone down. But if you didn’t know me, you wouldn’t know I’d just had a nose job so it’s not too horrendous!
I think that is the main concern for most people considering any type of facial surgery, especially rhino,… if it goes wrong, you’re screwed, as you cant cover it up. But as the other girls have said, if you chose the right surgeon, and your expectations are realistic, the chance of this happening is low. I would recommend you book a consultation with Dr Gonschior and see what you think.
Nope, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be. Have not been in any pain, just uncomfortable. My nose has been insanely itchy at times the last couples of days, I feel like im being tortured as I cant relieve the itch lol. Around my nose is starting to feel tight and heavy, I assume this is because its starting to heel?! Was yours full of dried blood by any chance? Mine is, and its driving me crazy lol
Aww Hmariez, you should be all bruised too, as weird as that sounds.
I didn’t take any pics with me, but if you have some, and you have an idea of what you want, take them. I just wanted my nose to look smaller, I didn’t really have a clue what could be done to my nose in order to make it more fitting with my face, so pretty much let Dr Gonschior decide what was needed.
Ah you girls so excited for you all, i know how i felt at this point prettyhatemachine, i remember the itchy nose that was so irritating and yes i had dried blood all inside but i was naughty and picked it all out!!!!
Bruising will go down properly after about 3 weeks, i was quite lucky and had 5 weeks off work as i’m an air hostess so couldn’t fly before that, first 2 weeks i was bored out of my brains though as didn’t leave the house with the cast on!!!!!
Well keep us all informed with the progress!! xx
You were lucky getting 5 weeks off! I had the dried blood too, just gently try and clean it with a wet cotton bud. Have you seen the latest news today? Chuckled to myself this morning when reading it on the train to work! x
haha thats well gd! Was Mr G their surgeon lol! N it states the price at end, I paid a lot more than that for a closed op!! Hows being back at work with the new nose bumble? has anyone noticed….my nurse said to me that no would notice i’d had it done, they would just notice that there was something different.
I am currently sat by my phone waiting for Mya to ring me to give me my new op date! xx
I haven’t used any photos either, i know what i want, but i also want it to fit in with my face – (want a bump removed, tip slightly reduced and some shape to it) so like prettyhatemachine, i am generally relying on Dr G to sort it lol.
Hows everything goin prettyhatemachine? I would be so tempted to pick dried blood out too lol…cant wait to have mine done xx
xx
Girls which clinics does he cover xxx
Work has been okay, one person has noticed, but have had to tell a few people because of the bruising under my eyes. If I didn’t have the bruising, people would be none the wiser. Have you got your new date yet? I hope so, you must itching to have it done now. Prettyhatemachine, hope you’re doing ok, boring staying in isn’t it! x
I desperately want to pick all this dried blood out, but im scared I will pull one of my internal stitches out. I hope the nurse can clean it out for me tomorrow, I cant cope lol, feels like I have stones up my nose.
Im lucky im not back in uni till the beginning of October, so have loads of time to recover.
Lol, his and hers noses. Im sure they only went for their consultation last week, I wonder how they got an op date so soon hmmm… little suspicious lol.
As far as im aware, MYA only rent hospital space at Highgate, so the prices they have stated in that article are Highgate’s. If Dr Gonschior works for them as well as MYA we could have saved ourselves £1000…
I get my stitches out tomorrow, I cant believe its been a week already
That’s fab to hear that no one has noticed your nose in work bumble281
The boredom has been killing me lol, I had to go out for a walk today, I think it may have caused my face to swell a little, but it was worth it to get out for a bit.
HI girls, its great that youve started a thread for rhinoplasty because ive been wanting some info on it for years
I’ve got my first consultation booked for Monday, really excited. Hoping to have it with MR Gonshoir, would any of you mind letting me know how much it will cost me approx, im looking to have a bump removed and my tip made slightly smaller, not sure if thats a big job or not lol!!!!
Thanks ladies, any feedback would be much appreciated xxxxxxxx
p,s and how long you had to wait from your first consultation to the actual surgery date
xxxxxxx
Hey
It sounds like you would only need closed surgery, which costs £4400. He gets pretty booked up for about 3 months. My first consultion was in March, and my op date was June. Hope this helps. xx
thats brilliant pretty hate machine, might be able to get it done this year then
xxxx
I had my consultation late April and had the op on 2nd June, so mine went through pretty quickly! 3 weeks today post op. Missed the Kings of Leon gig yesterday to avoid masses of people and flying plastic bottles! The things you do eh! 😉 x
I had my consultation March, and should have had mine in June…but i purposely wanted it for when I finished uni so didnt want any earlier. However as my op had to be post-poned… now i’ve got to wait till September, so guess you will be waiting about 3 months xx
Hey girls, really interesing reading yoour comments. im considering nose reshaping (removal of bump and prob some tip work). Im getting married end of march next year so worried ive left things too late as read full results can take a year. can anyone tell me about their thoughts n feelings on their nose and swelling post surgery! thanks x
I have my first consultation booked, can anyone tell me if I will have to travel to see Mr Gonschoir on my next conultation? or does he travel, my consol is at cardiff xxx
Not sure if Mr. G travels, he’s based in London, but probably best to speak to MYA.
Eliza, I’m nearly 4 weeks post of and still have a little bit of bruising under my eyes. Swelling stays a while and it will change over the next couple of months. I’d give it a good 6 months before the wedding. Best thing to do is book a consultation as soon as you can and see what they say x
Hi girls. Bumble281, can I just ask seeing as you’re 4 weeks post op- is your nose badly swollen? To the point where if you hadn’t told people that knew you about your surgery they would notice? I’m getting mine done next week by Mr Gonschoir and am so nervous! I’m also really dreading the whole staying in for weeks issue, as I have told as little people as pos about my surgery (1. because its no-one else’s business and 2. because I know they’ll all say things like I didn’t need it etc!) Terrified of ruining my face
Just wondered what everyone else’s experience with Mr G has been like and if you’re pleased with results. I’m having open surgery and want my very slight bump removed and tip made smaller
Hi girlies. I’m new to all of this…eek!
I have my consultation booked with Mr G and I’m really excited and daunted at the same time. It’s such a huge decision to make so I want to be 110% about the surgeon I chose.
I was just wondering about any reviews/exeriences people have read or been through with Mr G? Is he recommended etc etc?
x
I was recommended him by someone and also know he did Lauren G, Lauren P and Kirk’s from TOWIE so hoping he’s good? He’s also done one of the nurses at Mya who I’ve met (her nose is perfect) I’ve been to another consultation where I paid, but something didn’t feel right with the surgeon (not sure why but I just didn’t seem to trust him 100% with my nose), with Mr G, I instantly felt at ease and like he knew exactly what I wanted. I’ll be having it done next week, so will let you know how I get on…terrified!
Yeah, the PC who I met is having hers done in July so when I go back I’ll be able to see her his work! Exciting!
Good luck lorlor! Of what I know of MYA, you’re in safe hands. How much detail will Mr G go into at the consultation? I’m really worried that I won’t be able to describe exactly what I want in enough depth and so I’d maybe end up with something I didn’t want. Sounds odd, I know what I don’t want (and that’s my current nose) but what I do want? There’s so many different shapes and sizes and will they suit my face and how do you decide this? It’s such a toughy!
x
I know. He’s really good though and will let you explain what you don’t like about your nose to him. He shows you his portfolio as well (which is so amazing) so this will help you show him what you think looks good.
Hey lorlo77. Don’t worry, you really are in the best of hands, you must be so excited
For rhinoplasty Dr G is the man lol, for other procedures other surgeons may be better, but Dr G really does understand noses lol. I had my cast off the other day and its amazing what he has achieved. I still freak out a little when I look in the mirror, I feel like I look so different, but other people who have seen me, say I look like me, accept my nose looks ridiculously perfect lol. My nose is currently very swollen, but im 99.9% sure that im going to be so happy with the results once all the swelling has gone down. I do have the occasional freak out, and think, oh god, what have I done, but I have to remind myself that I currently look a bit odd because my whole nose is very swollen, plus under my eyes are too and I still have bruising. I was terrified that I would ruin my face too, but a softer nose can only make your other facial features nicer?!
Hey Kaylees, I was in the same position as you, all I knew was that I HATED my nose. I wanted my bump removed, and tip reduced, but I also wanted whatever surgeon I chose, to advice me on what could be done with my nose, so that I still looked like me, but with a much nicer nose. Dr G had a general idea of what I wanted, but because I couldn’t really explain what I wanted, as I didn’t know myself, I pretty much left it up to him. Dr G is really gifted when it comes to rhinoplasty, in a way, the procedure is kind of like an art form, and he really does understand and is able to visualise what will work with your face.
Lorlo77, it’s not badly swollen, no one would have noticed I had it done if I didn’t have the bruising. You only notice the swelling yourself because you can see it and feel it (everything is hightened in your own eyes than anyone elses). It’s mainly in the tip, but that takes the longest to heal. It will change over the coming months so when you have the cast off you know it’s going to get better and better. You have exactly the same issues as me, I had open surgery too and didn’t want a massive change and Dr. G is all about the subtly. I still look like me, just with a better neater nose! Most of my friends and family said before I didn’t need it done, but now they admit it looks a lot better. The whole process is not as bad as you’ll think it will be and he’s a great, polite, and approachable surgeon.
prettyhatemachine, so pleased you’re happy with it. It’s freaky when you first look in the mirror isn’t it. My only issue is now that I’m paranoid I’m going to knock it. You soon forget that you’ve had surgery on it, from putting a tshirt over your head to sleeping on it! x
Feel so much better now I’ve heard from both of you that have had it done! Thanks for your comments. I thought Mr G definitely seemed like the surgeon to go for and now you’re both saying your happy I feel ten times more confident. I have no plans for up to 5 weeks after the surgery (when I go away for the weekend with friends) so hopefully, by that time I’ll be happy with my nose and the swelling will have gone down a lot. I am excited, especially when I see successful nose jobs photos (I’m always looking online and love seeing the celeb ones, haha), but obviously its such a nerve wracking experience- I dread to think what I’ll be like on the day! I feel like I’ve waited a lifetime for this op, kind of want my date to hurry!
No worries, happy to share my experience if it puts people at ease. It’s a big decision to make and it helps massively hearing from people who have been through it. Trollydolly had it done 5 months ago and she helped me big time!. I wasn’t too nervous on the day, after a long wait you’re more excited about it and just want it over with. You’ve planned the 5 weeks well, everyone’s different with their bruising, but best to be on the safe side and not book any night’s out in that time frame. Do you have your surgery date yet? Wishing you the best of luck x
Hey Bumble281, how long did it take for all the glue to go from your nose? Or did you not have this problem? The day I had my cast off, my cousin actually thought my nose was shiny because it was sweating lol. I have been gently cleaning it every day with antiseptic wipes, which is helping. Also did your skin go all gross? Mine is making me sick, I usually have clear skin, but currently its hideous and spotty etc
I think everybody’s healing process is different. My bridge is naturally narrow, but its double the size at the moment. Also one nostril looks bigger than the other today, when they were perfectly symmetrical last week. I cant wait for everything to settle
As Bumble281 said, your nose just gets better and better from the day the cast is taken off. Other people probably don’t notice the swelling etc, but you find (well this is the case for me) you just cant stop looking at your nose in a mirror, so you notice everything.
I cant wait to be able to sleep on my side again, and reduce the number of cushions im using. When im in town, im scared someone is going to knock my nose, or when I walk past a park im on the lookout for any flying balls lol
When I told some of my family and friends I was getting my nose done, they all told me I didn’t need it doing, which made me feel worse, because I clearly did. My nose has bothered me for so many years, I never told anyone about it, because I didn’t want to draw any more attention to the area, and I didn’t want to hear people telling me I didn’t need it doing, when I really did, or worse people saying, oh, I agree, you should… lol, which would have only made me feel even more self conscious.
I thought I would be super nervous on the day, but I just felt hungry more than anything lol. The only time my nerves truly kicked in was when I had to walk down to theatre, I panicked and started to cry, but now looking back there was really no need to be nervous at all
My op date is next Thursday. I’m going to try not to think about it much (though its impossible). I already find myself keep looking at my nose and imagining it different (dread to think what I’ll be like when its actually done!). Glad you’re both happy with your outcomes so far
Prettyhatemachine, my skin has been really really oily around my nose (still is now), but also flakey, but I’m putting it down to it not having any air for 12 days! Fingers crossed it will stop soon! But everyday my swelling is different, it varies on either side and sometimes either nostril will be a bit stuffy or blocked. I have to remember that it was only 4 weeks ago and have to be patient. It’s all part of the recovery. I’m sleeping on my side now, was driving me nuts sitting upright!
Hey girls – Only just found these post Im booked in for open rhino with Dr Gonschoir on sunday the 24th – 6 more sleeps i’m so excited and have found all your posts really helpful
xx
